No because then the forum would be full of posts saying 'all I get is automated replies' If they have deleted your message or not replied you have your answer: they ain't interested.

Why is an automated message any better than a deletion?

Well manners and politness spring to mind if someone has took time to read and respond in a polite manner would it not be nice to have a polite responce even if it has to be automated

If you search the forums, you will see that this has been suggested before. I think people voted against it because it was so bland and not welcoming so it won't ever happen

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Its site policy that no reply means no, so an automated reply would be pointless.

Although if we could personalise one I would be all for it.

'Thank you for your message. Unfortunately wanting to 'smash my doors in' has caused your message to be automatically deleted for being trite and dull.'

So you would rather have an inbox full of 'thanks but no thanks'. What's the point of that? No response is telling you the same thing. Just another thing to complain about. Concentrate on the positive messages instead.

I struggle with the fact that I should have to send a polite no thank you to a message from someone who hasn't been polite enough to read my profile. Just a tad one sided!

no is the simple answer, its nothing to do with manners or politeness, no one owes anyone a reply.

O o O oo

As Admin have said it was used on another site and you still got people starting threads saying the reply was impersonal...one of those no win situations

How about a delete and block function then people won't get messages from people there not interested in and people's searches won't show those who aren't interested?

this is already there, people delete and block, but you get (mainly men) not reading the site rules and asking for automated replies and getting in a right strop because people dare not to reply, the fact is no one owes anyone a reply, the best option is as the site rules state, take no reply as not interested and move on.
