When looking at my friends list it says they are online and even chatting but when I go to chat there is no option to find what room they are in or when in a room no indication if I have friends in that room

Eg ......,., is in the midland room

Or am I just being dumb and there is this function ?

No, that doesn't exist. It has been requested before, but others have said they wouldn't want it, as it would make it easy for stalkers to follow someone from room to room.
