FabSwingers.com forum: Can FAB have usa an HTTPS server???

Would really prefer to connect to Fab using an https server. i.e. secure and encrypted. It would be a lot safer.

At the moment if you are using a shared internet connection eg wireless, in a shared house, of internet cafe. Anyone can read & see what your are typing or the pics you are sending.

I think most websites are using https now-a-days and it is becoming more and more necessary, there are snoopers everywhere

Most websites are on http, some use https for payment sub sites or similar. Even some of the banks keep their forward facing main site on http.

The technical resources to set up this site, including the chatrooms and mail system on https would be huge and a lot of users would run into difficulties. The ease of someone "overseeing" your use of a computer without your knowledge or permission is possible, yes. But it's not easy and far beyond the average, or even slightly above average users capabilities!

Don't believe all the hype on the media!

I absolutely understand about the technical resources, but I do not think it is fair to say most websites use http. Any new site that deals with sensitive or personal data now-a-days I've found to use https. Twitter & Facebook are both https by default. I understand these are major companies, & Fab is much smaller & relies on donations. But hopefully one day

Im not knocking Fab I still love you guys anyway x

You can always have a https connection to any website. You need to use https everywhere.

*many major websites*... but not this one.

https isn't that hard to setup and manage. but the ssl certificates can be expensive, and considering this is a free/cheap site that probably isn't viable.

Sorry to disagree but its actually very easy to view the packet data of someone's connection even someone not that computer "savy" but they wouldn't know what to do with the raw data.. The problem is the people who are actually snooping on open networks are not fazzed by https:// so unfortunately it wouldn't actually do much good anyway

so what I suggest is if you are worried about your on line security ( you should be ) look into securing your data packet connection

SSL (the S part of https) is pretty secure. Banks use it. And while somebody like the NSA could probably crack it, it would take a lot of time and resources. I don't think the NSA is that interested in a swinging site.

Not sure what securing your data packet connection means. Even googling it came up a blank.

Sorry again hun but do you have any clue to how much banks lose each week to hackers ? There was one case of a 17 year old in south america makeing 80 thousnd a month you might remember it on the news as for securing data packet please spend more than 5 minutes " GOOGLEING " It and you will find it hun its not major knowladge how much they lose as it would be bad for business but panorama did a special report on it xxxx hope I could help xxxx

I work in IT and I have done for 15 years. I work for a software company that has millions of end users. My employer pays me a good wage to know about internet security and encryption. Securing Packet Data does not make any sense. But hey, you watched Panorama so I guess you know better.

as soon as somebody gets put right on something they all of a sudden have worked in that field for years lmao

no I am not an expert because I watched panorama I was using that so u had a reference point if you wanted to start looking into it for urself as for not seeing what packet data has to do with it if you are snooping a network of any kind the data that it is made up of is data packets ( working in this industry for 15 years

you should know this hence securing your data packet is the only thing that does make sense duhhhh

P.s why you are so perfect and knowing in all subjects you had to point out my one typo spelling mistake
