newbies get too many messages then leave

It seems that as soon as a new girl signs up, they get inundated with hundreds of messages, get scared off then delete their profile.

Wouldnt it make sense to block users messaging new members for the first 7 days. New members can browse without feeling pressured and message anyone if they want to.

May help keep new members, and it could always be a way of increasing site supporters (they can message newbies after 3 days or something)

Just a thought!

They can do this themselves by setting message filters. It's not hard to do even for a newbie.

Or - the horn driven folk diving on the fresh meat within hours of arrival could restrain their urges and not try and jump in before everybody else does!

Although I'm with the previous poster in suspecting few of these are genuine would be members and more likely a d*unken 'giggle' or deliberate attempt to lure gullible idiots into divulging pics and numbers. And going by all the moaning threads - that's a strong possibility!

They get an advice page when they join up and get pointed to the filters so they can limit mails coming in.

If they don't want to do that maybe they like the attention

It could be set up so the default settings were more filtered somehow, like only verified members from a close geographical area until you changed it manually or something - it is somewhat overwhelming to begin with.

Thinking out loud - I wonder if stopping new members sending out messages for a few days (as well as posting on forums) would cut the number of 'day off'/fly by night fakers??

I got over a hundred emails in my first 24 hours. Yes, I had message filters set. It did almost scare me away. in the end set all email filters to block, and now I'm working my way through my inbox.

i don't think the email here helps. every time someone send me a new email it appears as a separate thread. and you have to keep deleting emails to read the messages at the bottom. its just impossible to manage any amount of emails. improving emails to the standard of other sites would help a lot.

I like yourself got inundated when joined not a bad thing to begin with. It takes a while sifting through deciding who is right for me. Hope the novelty will calm down.

Definitely agree re the messages!

Sometimes by the time you've read it they're already UNLOS !

Yes that's what I mean - if people could not post immediately I wonder if that would dramatically reduce the number of fakers??

And yes, as someone else said - threading all messages from one person under one header (like eg facebook does)would REALLY help manage messaging in general.

Ack I meant if people could not MAIL messages immediately.......... ie if I am a fake looking for amusement on my day off, I'm not going to wait 2 days, but if I am genuine I would. Maybe....

It's not moaning about how much, it's requesting a better way of managing it so we don't lose people or bury conversations or delete messages by mistake before being able to reply.
