Unread/Deleted

Hi all,

Was thinking it would be a nice feature if a deleted message indicated whether it was read or unread before it was deleted. I never message more than once if there is no response, but I am often left wondering whether my message was read in the first place, and may have missed out on a potential response. If I knew it was 'unread' I may just send one last message before giving up.

Surely them deleting the message without answering is a "no response" so you wouldn't want to send them another message if you "never message more than once if there is no response"?

If someone deleted with reading surely an even bigger reason to write a private note like 'miserable sod don't bother' rather than writing another!!

If someone has never opened the message, but deleted, how do they ever know what was written? With a status indicator of 'read' or 'unread' you know if your message was opened before deletion.

Many people dont read the message first but read the profile and if its not what they look for, the message will be deleted without being read.

By all means re send a message but generally silence speaks wonders.

No need to open a message to read someone's profile.

Maybee before reading the message they decided you weren't for them?

That is interesting, because personally I open any message first, then read the profile, but I guess we are all different

Focusing on the ones that reply and are interested is probably a better way forward. At the moment everything about your posts screams pushy

If someone deletes our message or doesn't reply then we just assume they are not interested.

Some people bulk delete their messages when the level of their inbox overwhelms them.

Nope. I'd pay more in supporter fees to opt out of any 'sent, read, deleted option'

No response is a response. Just not one you want

Concentrate on those that do respond and delete your sent box

I thought you could already do that? I forget what indication you get. I though it showed you if message was just deleted or read and deleted? Maybe that is only for site supporters?

A lot of people have said when they get mail the first thing they do is look at the profile. If the profile interests them they read the message. If the profile does not interest them they just delete the message.

This.

When you send a messages delete your sent items folder. If you get a reply then great. If you don't then move on. No reply = no thanks.

You can tell if message had been read or not before it was deleted , in your sent messages if its yellow with a line through the message subject then it wasn't read .

This works for mobile site , not sure if its the same for desktop mode.
