differences in ban lengths

Newcastle and Gateshead

after reading the a chat room thread... there was a question that I thought was interesting that wasn't answered and skipped over..

how comes there are different length bans for offences in the chatroom and the forum....

thankfully for me not been on the "step of naughty" for a while.... but to me if for a 1st offence in the chatroom you sit for an hour, and a first offence in the forums you get 24hrs.... I would argue that one isn't really a deterrant (if you know you can be naughty... go away and watch lets say "dr who" and come back)

so wouldn't it be helpful if we had one set of rules and one set of consequences throughout the site?

so i would ask... are chatroom bans too lienient, or are forum bans too harsh???

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

I think I remember Admin posting once to say that the bans were longer on the forums because the 'offences' sit there forever (so to speak) whilst in chat they are gone as soon as they fall off the bottom of the screen.

I seem to recall that was the answer, but since forum mods can delete posts surely it doesn't apply.

In chat people get banned for an hour, then come back in an hour later when there are no chat mods in the room and do the same thing again.

Perhaps 24 hours sat out of chat would stop them doing so.

then again .... maybe not !

Now if I could shut whole rooms down in the same way as threads then I might go into chat more often

Im off to suggest that to Admin.

Joke btw before anyone reports me and I have to ban myself...

O o O oo

There is no set time for a first offence, it depends on what you have done while breaking rules as to what ban you get and how long it is.

I think the reason forum bans are longer is because you may be logged off when the ban goes in so an hour would seem pointless...whereas in chat it is normally instant as you are chatting ( unless it is reported and given at a later date by Admin.)
