Option to hide when you're online

Please, please add an option to not appear in the "online now" list and to prevent anyone not on my friends list from seeing if I am online on the site.

Often when I log on, especially if it's late, I get a sudden rush of messages from people seeing me online. Since sometimes I log on to message friends, deal with existing outstanding messages or use the fora, and don't want more messages to deal with, this is annoying.

If I could hide when I'm online from everyone but my friends, it would stop anyone mistakenly thinking I am online and therefore I must be available to chat or for an instant meet/phone sex/camming/cyber sex/whatever else they want.

We hide ours when we don't want any more mail and at certain times of the week. It works well.

yes please , can we have this .... I like to browse the forums late at night and Id rather not have to field desperado messages from guys looking for any woman with a pulse whos awake at 4 am . insomniacs r us .

Its like the quality of messages decline about 90% as well which makes it even worse.

People are talking about not having to hide their profile but simply be "offline" to the general site search while being online.

You might want to talk to friends or post on the forums but not get the deluge of to be quite frank CRAP that comes into the inbox post 2am.

I could hide and then unhide my profile each time, or change my filters and then change them back every time. However, that's a lot of faffing about just to avoid crap messages from horny blokes who want an instant, free shag or phone sex or dirty chat, and message every woman online, without bothering to read their profile, to try to get it.

It's very true that the average quality of messages is very low late at night and pushiness and rudeness when they don't get what they want is far more likely.

I agree with this suggestion.

I used to try to reply to all messages in my inbox..... but when I appeared as 'online', new messages were appearing as quickly as I could reply to the old ones!

My solution was to rely on the 'no reply = not interested' advice in the FAQs, and just not reply to anyone I wasn't interested in. But it would be better if we could 'opt out' of appearing on the online-now list.

Just because I'm online does not mean that I am looking for sex with a stranger right now!

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I've been asking for this since I joined 3 years ago. I know there is the option to hide the profile but that doesn't stop messages from friends (especially asking why my profile is hidden!) and sometimes I just want to sneak on here to clear some messages without being drawn into conversations.
