Just wondered what Fab does to stop people with fake profiles from just setting up another fake profile after they have been taken off site?

Although not fullproof, couldn't you use the users IP address as a way to block and deter the timewasters, fakers and pervs? These people spoil the experience for the genuine among us on here.

Thank you

In a crisp poke on the A814

They would simply log on under a different IP address...

Yeah, I said it wasn't fullproof - more something to deter people, because there's is only so many different computers/phones, etc, anyone have access to.

Yes if you're that determined you can keep going, but I suggest that most either don't have access to loads of comp's or will give up.

My understanding is that only the broadband provider can block IP addresses not a website so in this case Fab doesn't have that right

many isp's re issue different IP to users (they may or may not use the same computer).

doesn't stop anyone from using a different isp either.

dont get mistaken for thinking banning IP's would do anything - it simply wont!

It doesn't work like that.

Fab can block IP's - but it wont do anything.

It can in inadvertently block honest users as isp re circulate IP's.

The majority of users use dynamic (changing) by given out by ISP's not static (non changing) IP's.

As someone's already said most ip's are dynamic so you could end up being blocked from access because of someone else, then there's proxy servers and ip changers , the best thing to do really is just use common sense, any fake profile report , use your filters to stop newbies and use the tools provided in site ( verifications, chat rooms etc ) to help , luckily this site isn't plagued by many fakers unlike some other sites out there

"Does anyone have any better ideas then?"

review your own selection policy on other profiles.

verifications, filters, pre meet phone calls with all concerned to confirm etc all play a part.

You also get to lots of parties etc - so meet genuine people there and network.

If genuine friends and people you know well have validated others or have been validated, then you can use those to help you meet other genuine others.

Thanks Mis Blonde and Miss Giggles, I totally agree with everything you both say.

That being said, we've been swingers for 5 years now and usually pretty good at spotting the wannabe's, fakers, pervs and timewasters, but just occasionally you like to give people who (even with all your experience) appear genuine (usually newbies) the benefit of the doubt, only to find out you've been had lol. To be frank, it's frigging annoying, when you waste so much time and it spoils the experience, not to mention putting people off.

And you're right thankfully this site isn't plagued by them, but this is a genuine issue that shouldn't just be dismissed i.m.o.

It is a genuine problem that shouldn't be dismissed that's true , just unfortunately if someone is determined to create a fake account they will always find a way

A website can block by IP address. It is up to the website owner who they allow to view their website. Many online forums block by IP address. It is very easy to get around an IP address block though.

"why not charge more for setting up accounts .rather than paying monthly /quaterly ."

because a site relys on member numbers to attract advertising.

not everyone (incl those who are genuine) wishes to pay additionally for a free site or has the means to pay more.

Pay sites are still frequented by many fakers.

We're not photo verified!

Should we be booted off site?

*despite circa 100 meet veri's between our couples profile and our solo ones!

Photo verification means nothing - fakes and those wishing to mess people about can easily hold a piece of paper!

Yes, I just came across a photo of a couple who have just joined - except that the couple in the photo are friends of mine who live in Norway. We were on holiday with them in Spain and I Have the photos to prove it! So I have reported them but its not good for the site - if there is one fake than there must be lots more. What's the motivation? What might we be letting ourselves into?

O o O oo

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.

******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).

Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

Admin

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.

Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

--

Your feedback has been saved.

A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.

By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.******
