"Can I suggest that admins add an option to the mailbox. If a user receives a message, there is a button you can click that sends a generic reply back saying "thanks for your message, but sorry, I'm not interested" or something similar. These wouldn't count towards your daily maximum number of messages. It would be easier for women and couples who get a lot of messages to say "no thanks" quickly. Also from a single guy's perspective, at least you know and can move on. Asking for a friend " Actually this makes sense. We get messages now and again from the same people but nothing offensive to warrant blocking them. If we clicked the "Thanks but no thanks" maybe a pop-up could appear the next time they tried to send a message to remind them that they had previously sent a message but the other party wasn't interested....

That message already exists if you haven't replied!

"If you send a further message to someone who hasn't replied to initial contact - the following warning appears! . STOP. THINK. You've already sent "xxxxxxxxx" a message and not received a reply back. If someone doesn't reply, it's not rude, it just means they're not interested. You're better off messaging people who you haven't contacted already. PS. Because some women and couples get hundreds of mails each day, we take a dim view of anyone harassing those who don't reply! . Seems pretty sufficient to me! " This, although it seems to be written in invisible ink most of the time as some people don't seem to take any notice at all! Plus if someone messages me and has obviously not bothered reading my profile to see what I'm looking for, why would I want to message them back thanking them?

"I think I once read in the forums the Admin did trial a thanks but no thanks button. People complained the standard/ thanks but no thanks reply was impersonal. Just think of no reply to any email you send as a polite thanks but no thanks. " It was more they have it on another site and yes, there are many threads started by people complaing about the impersonal mail.

"I'm on another site that has the 'thanks but no thanks' auto reply option and yes I do get messages from people complaining that I didn't say no personally. " Yes I would rather be ignored with a personal touch

" Maybe to you but as we mentioned in our previous comment, we regularly get email from people who have previously messaged us and we haven't replied. They will get the same pop-up you pasted on the thread, but then continued to message us anyway. At least if you "Thanks but no thanks" them they will realise you aren't interested without the need to block them or spend a lot of time responding to each message with a reply.

I guess it's individual choice - but I'm happy to use the block button as just another filter! It's nothing personal. And saves people wasting time repeatedly messaging me when I'm not interested. A decent message will get a thanks but no thanks - but a crap one liner or crude message just gets a straight block! And before anyone throws the 'single male vs couples' volume of messages argument into the pot - we adopt the same approach on the couples profile - and it seems to work just fine! And by the very nature of using blocking as a filter actually reduces the number of messages we have to deal with!
