Inactive accounts

Up North

A lot of user names are taken up by people who create a profile, use it for a few days or weeks then never again.

Could I suggest that all accounts which have been inactive for a month, which have not been verified either by a photo or in person, be deleted.

This would free up these profile names. Also it would encourage more to get verified. It could reduce the number of fake accounts as well.

Even if they have been verified but inactive for a year say perhaps deleted also

So....

Here I am global jetsetter who is away for weeks at a time for work abroad. I come back after my 6 week trip and think about having some fun. I log on to FAB to find out i cannot log into FAB AS i have been deleted.....

Nice idea....impractical on that basis of a months inactivity.

Also doesnt matter about a fake account if it isnt active does it? Who contacts a profile that last logged on months ago?

Also do you want a profile name of an account you deem as fake?

As I say nice idea but the benefits of enforcing it are outweighed by practicalities I fear.

Have to agree with the OP. If the existing inactive account was removed then the name could be used for a new profile which would be taken on its own merits. We think its a great idea!

So under theses proposal,s , I see a slight problem

Let's say.

in the last year you had a meet with a user, the user for any reason goes inactive has account deleted, there user name becomes available .

You arrange to meet up again as you no the person from before. Could lead to uncomfortable position

I think Admin actually already do this.

I first joined Fab in 2008, but I wasn't a very active user at first (I used a different site as well, because most of my friends were on the different site). Every couple of months, I would come back to Fab, and find that my profile had been deleted. Maybe they thought, because I had no photos or verifications, that I was fake!

So now I've learned - stick with Fab!

But if we're only talking about unverified, inactive, pictureless accounts - then deleting an account would free up server space!

Anyone with a green tick/flag would be safe - so those 'infrequent' site visitors could simply get photo verified to prevent removal!

Makes sense to me!!

No offence to the o p but if the only issue is usernames folk need to be inventives if the preferred name is taken its not too hard.

Bit bemused.

After being away for a year, who is going to remember their details for logging in?

I have all on when I haven't logged in for a few days

I think admin should remove inactive profiles, but set it to a reasonable length of time, ie a year.

I have seen some that haven't logged in in over a year

I think it's safe to say after a year they are finished with the site, unless they have been in a very long holiday at her majesty's pleasure

There's literally trillions of different usernames you can have. I don't think this much of an issue

Freeing up the user names is just one benefit. It would free up space on the server as well.

Also would encourage people to use the site and get photo verified. Those who are just signing up to have a look at other profiles, with no intention of actually using the site would have their profiles deleted.

The problem is that the more members a site has the more it is worth therefore culling members devalues the site.

I would agree with most of the above, but, with the provison that there is no need to be verified as it is unfair and a discriminatory practice. There are plenty of people here who have reported limited/no succes in meeting others(especially single guys) they have been trying for months and have read the statement of "not looking for single guy's" so many times that meeting within the first month is virtually impossible, yet a lady friend of mine had 200+ invitational messages in the first week of joining.

It would be best if the initial time limit for verification were to increase to 3 months. then a warning of impending closure for a further month before their account is closed.

I am sure this happens anyway. It's just basic site housekeeping. As there are no stats displayed for the site, it won't devalue anything, as nobody knows how many registered users there are.
