Thanks for this update; I was surprised not to get prior warning. Again, I've been a member of both fab sites a long time.

Prior to this change, few locally used chat and I had hoped Fab would seek to encourage greater participation. Unfortunately I can't see this requirement increasing use of the chat rooms from locals around me.

I'm interested to hear from those still accessing the chat rooms whether they remain active and worthwhile?

See I’m not sure about this - I’m not paying - but don’t see why I, or others that won’t pay, should influence these decisions.

You will now have people that don’t pay - some who can access the chat for free and some that can’t - how is that fair? Also what is a long standing account? Some people might be one day short 🤣

My main reason to come here is for the vhat rooms and I'm usually on cam (for other members to enjoy) while there. If you want me to pay - no thanks, there are alternatives.

Over the years I've had the occasional problem with fab but I have never ever had any reply or support from admin. If I had, I might be inclined to pay. That's life!

If the suggested misuse was an issue, instead of restricting use to only members, who don't get much more out of the service than non paying viewers, why not request moderation assistance form others to maintain a safer chat room experience.

Reducing the attractiveness of the chat room use might reduce the real purpose of this site, which is to allow contact and friend expansion for like minded users, and NOT a money grab.

I dont get why people are against paying for a service. Why should those who do pay subsidise those who dont?

There are plenty of free chat apps....kik, tel...m, WhatsApp etc if you just want to chat.

And the old 'im a longstanding member'argument is rubbish. You are costing the site money to maintain your account, so to them you are a liability not a benefit.

So if you do leave you are actually doing them a favour.

So perhaps miss that costa coffee today and pay for the site, its probably cheaper.

Totally agree …. I’m sick of blank profile newbies filling the cam rooms and repeating aimless drivel. What is “long standing” anyway? Keep it for paid users which is cheap as chips.

I'm not against paying to be a member of the site and getting the extra perks that paid members get. I have been a paid member for many years, although recently I haven't renewed it as I've had other things to spend my spare cash on.

However, a bit of notice of this would have been nice just in case some people might have arranged to meet up in one of the chat rooms and suddenly find they can't.

I do see a benefit to the rooms being only for paid up members so I will renew mine again soon.

If you want to be a member, then pay membership, simple. The site is NOT a free chat service, its a hub for swingers that includes a chat service. If you want a simple free chat facility go and use kik or tgram.

So after being a member of this site for decades, I can now only use the site if I pay. And after helping with building the member count by the he amount of word of mouth references that I gave out recommending this site. Yet the amount of "fake" account that dominate this site that is reported on and nothing gets done to ban or cancel those accounts. Doesnt make sense that those who have been here from the beginning faithfully get the shaft, while the fake account that have a paid account are given access.

Looking from the other perspective, I am hoping this change deters people who abuse and harass others in chat, the get blocked and banned, then make new profiles to do the same. Having a paywall, seems to be the only way to stop this happening. Also to deter the fake profiles and scammers using the site.

Personally I don't see the issue. I've been a silver supporter for many years - its not that much. 5 quid for 50 days as I usually always renew before it expires so get the 5 extra plus normal 45 for silver. Pay by text, no fuss. Can't help but think it's really crass all these "free" members banging on about how long they have been here so should be rewarded - that's not how it works folks. Sadly hosting costs money - word of mouth to recruit even more, probably free memebers, isn't paying anyones bills.

I'm not a long standing member(just over a year) But the free chat was one of the reasons I joined. Putting it behind a payall seems counter intuitive. Especially when so many other similar sites keep their chat free.

fabs own admission is -"Fab will always be free to use. We're just giving you the chance to remove the ads and get additional functionality we couldn't otherwise afford to provide". So apart from what's already listed as part of the silver or gold package. How is putting chat behind a paywall improving any functionality. Sorry to say it feels just like a money grab.

What angers me is that in the chat rooms, if someone annoys you, you can just block them. But there are frequent forum threads that skirt the boundaries of legality (and that a dispassionate observer from Sydney university or the BBC would interpret as highly dodgy). They also reveal how plenty of men on Fab think about women. If I was going to clean up Fab I would start there.

Sites cost money to run you know.

It costs £5 a month on text to become a site supporter it's hardly breaking the bank.

I have a feelimg it is more of a protective measure than a money making one but even if it is the money why not?

Why should they be running a site for thousands of people for free?

Members who pay are going elsewhere and paying more to be members of other sites where premium features mean they connect with genuine other premium users more easily. The sheer number of accounts started and shut down within weeks on Fab must be huge cost to the servers and database. The fact that many are non paying members could imply that they are not invested in the lifestyle as much as those on other sites.

Fab doesn’t have ads on its pages so “free members” get a lot of stuff for no benefit to Fab at a large cost to Fab for running the site for those free members who in the majority are not actually looking to meet for real or understand what the lifestyle is about.

Example….new local member joined this morning…messages us about wanting to watch us have sex.

Told him if he goes to a club he may be lucky to see us at one and get to voyeur.

He replied …. a club?

Ok he needs some educating into what the lifestyle offers and how it works but if that’s the standard of free members then for couples actually seeking single guys it is not hard to see why they would leave. And also why Fan will end up as a sausage party if Fab don’t start applying some similar measures to other sites

The £5 option is on text and phone call you can't do the £5 by card.

Why have they made chat rooms for site support members only.there are plenty of ways they can improve or modernise this site but to do this seems a bad decision as many enjoyed the free use of cams.any feedback is ignored and any constructive criticism and you are banned from forums.cant understand this decision at all

Why do people think everything should be free?

Sites cost money to run and if they are losing money because too many are not paying for the service then yes they need to charge.

The people making me laugh are the ones threatening to leave. The site are making nothing from them anyway so its not like they will be missed.

We paid while back but saw no benefit that we enjoyed so reverted.

You seem to be missing the point. Fab have said themselves it's not about money. It's pretty clear the recent bad press has made the site look bad and something was needed in terms of safeguards. But banning non supporters from chat was not the right thing to do. I suspect that in most of the examples in the press, the male half would gladly pay the support fee to carry on what they were doing. It penalises the wrong group and was the wrong measure to start with.

You are not being penalised you are being asked to pay for a service that far too many have been using for free.

It actually surprised me that the chat rooms where free in the first place. It is one of the areas I would expect people to have to pay for.

I never use them myself but I pay site support for other benefits. I honestly feel this is a good move to be honest with you.

exactly they state it's a free site.and those saying well they've got to make money somehow,they don't realise that once they start charging people for the things that were once free they will keep doing it for everything else if they know people are daft enough to pay

but the owners supposedly set up the site as a free to use site for swingers and they are now charging people to pay for something that was free they say it's not for the money,if that's the case why not set up safeguarding measures that don't penalise the users.people saying it costs money to run the website,maybe so ,but the whole point of it when it was set up was free and easily accessible site for the swinging community.theyare going against the whole concept of it and will keep charging for more and more
