Friends status likes

Would it be possible to implement a system where you could ‘like’ the status of people on your friends list.

I say just the friends list as I guess anything more would overwhelm things plus if their on a persons friends list I imagine they would be happy with receiving likes rather than from some random stranger.

If you like a status message the person and tell them.

You dont need a like button.

I do but it would be easier with a button that puts a little thumbs up or something next to their status , like FB, especially for those friends that tend to get an awful lot of messages who really don’t need another just saying I liked their status.
