"my issue is the updating of the "online" status. i see a friend is online i type them a message... i CHECK their status and its still online... i send the message.. and then see online has now instantly changed to 5 minutes ago.. how does the system update?? " There was a similar thread recently where a member posted their explanation of how it works - but I don't understand it. Lol. Perhaps you will

There was a similar thread recently where a member posted their explanation of how it works - but I don't understand it. Lol. Perhaps you will thank you i had a read and that says to me Fabs is an old system, well i think we all know that lol.Clunky isnt the word!.. ... using an efficient old way of storing up messages / updates etc and then refreshing the system every 5 mins or so rather than instant updates which are data/memory hungry (ie exspensive) ... which fits with the issue i raised..Shes online now ... she logs off but the system doesnt update for 5 mins then .. shes not online now. hers the geeky explanation...... Cache memory is a small, high-speed memory component that stores frequently accessed data to speed up computer performance. It acts as a buffer between the CPU and main memory (RAM), allowing the processor to retrieve data much faster than if it had to go to the slower RAM or hard drive each time. When the CPU needs data, it first checks the cache; if the data is there (a cache hit), it's retrieved instantly, which significantly improves the system's overall speed and efficiency.

"Fab is not an "instant messaging" service. Also, just because people appear online, it doesn't mean they are going to read, and reply to, messages instantaneously. If the message is time-sensitive and you have other ways of contacting them, use the other method. " I completely agree with this. I think a lot of people expect instant replies if they see you're online. I can be on here for two hours, if I don't want to open messages, I won't. Sending repeat messages will just annoy me.
