We have (so I thought) banned people from writing to us that do not have public pictures. We do seem to be getting them though. So either the block doesn't work or they put a pic on public then take it off once they have written to us. Very sneaky if that is the case. Does anyone else have this?

It's been a known problem for some years.

When I use that filter, I use it as a test of someone's willingness to respect boundaries.

If I look and there are no public pictures - they don't respect my boundaries. So I block them.

It’s deliberately circumventing people’s preferences. Should be a ban for doing that - if they can’t respect boundaries on a profile, they certainly won’t in person.

One of the few annoying features of the site. Only remedy is to block the profile. Same for people who message when their profile is hidden.

I had someone test this for me recently. It only blocked them if all their pics were private.

If they had friends only pics it didn't stop them messaging me.

It seems they dont actually need to make a picture "public" they only need to have friends only pics for it to let their messages through.

It seems it only applies to new messages, so if they've messaged you before you had filters they can still message you even after. I find that with my age restrictions

If you have messaged them before none of the filters will block them. That is why I dont reply to every message. I want my filters to work if I use them.

I believe the glitch (on search as well as messaging) is left over from when you could only have public or private pictures, but when they introduced the 3 layers of pics; public, friends only, private, the way the code is written is “not private” rather than “has public”. This means that anyone with friends-only pics can message.

I thought this was the case, someone said before they couldn't message if they had just friend only pics, I suspected they could.

So its not a great filter.

As I stated above fab classes friends only pics as public so they don't even need a work around.
