Gold Supporter changes 5th Jan 2010

(any feedback post on this thread)

In a nutshell we are: (1) Increasing the Gold Site Supporter pass from 30 to 35 days, as of today. (2) Adding 5 days FREE today to all current Gold Site Supporters and (3) doing this by removing the guarantee of personal site support on site issues (which only a minority used, but used to excess).

More about this:

We're ringing the new year in with some changes. As of today any GOLD Site Supporters passes will be for 35 days, increased from 30 days. We're removing the guarantee of personalised site support with the Gold Supporter option for any new upgrades, which allows us to offer the extra days. We'll still be honouring the existing contact pledge until your current Gold pass expires (if you're a Gold site supporter), PLUS all current Gold Site Supporters have been given the five extra days on their current pass as a New Year present too, to say thanks from us for your ongoing support

We've written more about this on the FAQ page but we'll copy+paste below.

Why don't you offer Gold Site Supporters guaranteed support anymore?

As of Jan 2010 we no longer offer new Gold site supporters guaranteed support on site issues (we will continue to honour the pledge to existing subscribers until Feb 2010). We have increased the length of new Gold memberships from 30 to 35 days, which will benefit the vast majority of folks who choose to take up Gold Site Supporters membership.

The site is pretty straightforward and easy to use and users don't have any problems. However, we found that a small minority of people made a dis-proportionately large use of the "guaranteed reply" facility (some sending upwards of 100 questions/queries a month!). This meant we weren't able to do things like improve the site, because we were spending a lot of our time asking questions that were (nearly always) already answered on the FAQ pages. We'd rather benefit the silent majority rather than the vocal minority and not have to increase our charges or reduce what we do for free by employing customer service goons and by removing this benefit we've increased the length of the standard Gold Supporter pass from 30 to 35 days.

One other thing to note. We are 100% committed to ensuring you never need to contact admin about your account/site use.

We are going to continue to improve and add to the FAQ/help pages and we're going to make everything you could need to do on the site accessible via "my account" page.

We're also going to improve our communication with users particularly about forum/chat blocks (more on this shortly).

On the home page it states :

1) A £5 GOLD upgrade now lasts an extra 5 days, to 35 days rather than 5 days

Should that not read: rather than 30 days?

We try our best but we're swamped. This is part of the reason for stopping offering something we have struggled to deliver on.
