Good morning,

While it’s not something that happens often on our couples account, this is a recurring issue that’s been raised within the community.

Currently, users are given the option to wink or message, only to be met with a notification stating that, for one reason or another, these actions are unavailable. While these reasons are usually valid, the user experience could be greatly improved with a small but meaningful change.

Rather than allowing users to click a feature that ultimately isn’t functional, it would be far clearer and more user-friendly to remove the link in such cases altogether, replacing it with a simple note indicating that the action isn’t available.

Some may argue that users should read profiles carefully to know whether winks or messages are possible. While that is technically correct, it doesn’t always reflect how people actually use the platform. Nuances can be missed, and the current design sets users up for a frustrating interaction that could easily be avoided.

Ultimately, not every workaround has to rest on user vigilance, sometimes small design improvements can go a long way in creating a smoother and more intuitive experience. This change would not only reduce confusion but also reflect a more thoughtful and polished interface.

Most people that complain about not being able to message profiles because of age filters,not looking for men ect ect, are disgruntled because they feel they should be able to message the profiles. So your suggestion won't make those people any happier...

Thanks for the reply, though I think the point may have been missed.

This isn’t about wanting to bypass filters or pander to those upset by them. It’s simply about user experience.

If a message or wink isn’t possible, the button shouldn’t appear active in the first place. Instead of letting users click only to be told “you can’t,” just show a note upfront. It avoids unnecessary clicks and confusion, especially for newer users.

It’s a small change, but one that would make the site cleaner and more intuitive.

The main issue I can see with that is that the inability to message or wink is determined by a profiles filters, which many people change dependant on their current activity. Some enable/disable filters when they are either busy with life and not wanting to chat or conversely remove filters when they're active and seeking engagement.

The message you receive just explains that you can't at that time do something. It may not be permanent. There's no real difference to seeing an inactive button which gives no explanation and the current system which does, as it states whether its down to age or gender. I'd say that's more useful than an inactive button which may leave people wondering if it was a glitch. 🤷‍♂️

People don't read profiles you think they'll pre read warnings..... Hardly

Plus no response is a response and that still triggers some people just as a simple no thanks leads to...ohh but why... Etc

It wouldn’t be a warning, it would be exactly the same functionality but with a time-wasting step taken out.

How much time is actually wasted though?

Push 'wink'. Get a message saying you can't. Tap 'back'.

In the grand scheme of things not a huge waste of anyone's time, and the message you get may itself be a useful reminder to others about message filters. 🤷‍♂️
