"It would be good to have a like button (or have a choice of emoji options) for people's comments in the forum." This has been suggested many times before and from memory the general responses were that it would just become a popularity contest and potentially have a negative impact on those who didn't get any. If you had a thumbs up option you'd also need to have a thumbs down to offer choice - and that could potentially be abused and used simply because someone had ignored/rejected someone. Personally it's a little too 'Facebook' for me. Life shouldn't be measured on 'likes' in my mind and some comments that appear ignored and passed over in many threads are just as valuable and meaningful as those that get plenty of individual replies. 🤷♂️

"OK I hear you but the like/dislike system has been an important innovation adopted by almost all text based platforms to make up for the lack of pshyical cues text based platforms can offer. Social media, WhatsApp, apple and android, telegram and many more use it. So much so that it feels alien to not have it here. For me its a simple way to offer agreement without the need to reply but it also does indicate value. Someone asking advice may receive a reply which in turn receives multiple "likes" giving the asker clear indication that the community is in agreement with the comment. If a person's comments often receive negative feedback it offers them insight into how to act (or not act) if they want to be accepted in the community. I don't think its about popularity, it's just a subtle communication method to offer support or disagreement in the same way and smile or frown would. It can actually aid in creating a bond between like minded people. " I don't disagree with any of that at all. I get all of your points completely. Personally I just feel it's maybe a little different here than on normal vanilla social media. I've seen no end of Facebook posts and comments descend into digs and jibes often accompanied by laugh/angry face emolis. I know ow it's different here and the forums are moderated and most social media isn't, but I'd hate to see anyone posting get put off because they didn't get 'likes' or any affirmation on threads. People already state they feel excluded when nobody replies to their comments. 🤷♂️
