Unread message not yellow

Does anybody know why some unread send messages will be highlighted in a yellow box, and some not?

stop I know it's not because it's been read and then marked as unread, what else could it be?

It's not important it just interested me!

Hiya op

Maybe still have one or more unread message if a user has sent say one message and it's not been read then sent another and the receiver only read the last one rather than scrolling down to both
