Just a question about the new gold and silver badges . Do we need them ? Do they serve any purpose for people to see what kind of member you are ? Just an idea ! If you decide to pay extra or not , is upto yourself , and no chance of any kind of hierarchy . Si

think silver and gold badges is just to give members the opportunity to be able to have more options on the site. I for one paid for a gold one, nice to see who has nosed at your profile. Plus we all complained about the adverts so now we have the choice not to have the adverts on our page. I think it is a good idea. And lets be fair not much to pay. It is like all things I suppose the owners are trying to do their best to keep the site mostly free, hence the choice to have a badge or not.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

OP do you mean whether or not the gold/silver badge actually needs to be displayed?

Suppose the site would want to display it anyway as a kind of advertising tool to encourage other people to sign up too, but I think you make a good point.

Personally Im still thinking about whether to sign up or not.

Having been on a site which had a similar function (to see who had been looking at your profile) I found it to be a pain in the arse!

You see who looked at you - big deal - they couldn't have been that interested as they didn't message you - if they did message you, you would know they have looked anyway.

They get to see if you have looked - great! Now you start getting messages from a bunch of people just because you looked at their profile - and again, let's face it, if you were interested you'd have messaged them. But, on no, logic like that doesn't work. Now just because you read their profile they start messaging you saying "Hi, I see you have been looking, what doyou think?".... it's pretty obvious what I thought! I thought it wasn't interesting enough to send you a message!

I seem to be able to block the adds with my add-blocker from Virgin so why pay?

Same as post above if someone's looked at my profile and not sent a message why would I be interested in knowing that? lol

Polo you can adjust your settings so that people don't know that you have looked at their profiles and then you can look in peace and not worry about them messaging you just because you,ve looked at them

Its in your privacy page

You also have the option to add lots more photos to your profile and you can also look at other peoples pics in super size - That's more than you can do as a free member ..

Surely that must be worth a couple of quid alone ??

So there is no real benefit is there - if everyone clicks the privacy setting then you can't actually see who has been looking and you are paying for a function which other people can stop you using.... hmmmmm.

I meant is there really a need to display the badges , I think the extras are a good idea . Just not sure it needs displaying what sort of member you are .

Well personally speaking we paid the gold membership, but it's not because we need the new features (we never use chat rooms, yes we had a look who is looking at our profile a couple of times just for the novelty value, we probably will upload more pics but haven't done so yet, and yes the thing we do like was is the supersized pics when viewing others profiles)

So why did we pay? - simple - we think of it as a donation.

We would have paid it whether there were any new features or not simply because we think this is a great site, well worth our support, and we're more than happy to contribute a little each month considering the pleasures we get as a result from using it.

Really it's just like putting a quid in the box on poppy day. Oh and of course you get a paper poppy to wear too. Now isn't that exactly the same as this silver or gold badge?

Or maybe you frown at people wearing poppies for a few days in November as well?

Sorry but no I don't think it is the same as the poppy appeal...rememberance of those that died fighting to give us a freedom of choice is not my idea of fun.

whereas our choice to have fun with others should not be dictated by whether we pay or not for any site upkeep. Yes we have paid a silver membership this time but if you work out the cost of gold membership is £60 per year and £30 for silver, would we all put the equivalent into the poppy appeal when the time comes? I think not, it is a case of each to their own, I just hope it does not create a them and us platform on the forum or anywhere else on this already great site. Snobbery can be a terrible thing you know!

take care XX Heather

I hope it doesnt create any sort of snobbery either...I just think that people are paying for the extras and nothing else...it does,nt make them any better than anyone else on here

If anything the extras make the site more fun, well they do for me

It would'nt matter to me if the badge was shown or not xx

First you can opt not to allow people who see that you have looked at thier profile by going to your privacy page, well I can I am a gold member not sure if others can or not.

I like to see who has clicked on our profile, if they have viewed it and did not get in touch it tells me they are not interested and therefore we dont contact them and waste our time or thiers.

other options on the gold membership we like and think it VFM ie being able to upload lots of pics

The only thing we dont agree with is the added site support thingy, we believe everyone who supports the site should get equal support from the site
