Timewaster flag

Probably been discussed a million times before, so apologies.

But add a button to flag a profile as a potential timewaster and give a reason why (profile says they're looking for X then refuse; never reply and it's probably someone with no intention of ever meeting anybody, etc).

After X strikes, the flag is displayed on their profile. In the same way Fab currently flags some recently created profiles as potential scams.

"But what if they're just not into you? "

"Sorry, not for us" takes seconds to type and send.

Ah that old chestnut. Is the fact that they've not responded not indication enough? Why would you class that person a (potential) time waster? Maybe they haven't responded to your message because they prefer to build connections with those they are interested in?

That's just one scenario.

I have also found some other threads and admin replies in the meantime - you can report a profile, but it's still not helpful for viewers. Which now leads me to think there should be some way to distinguish between Here to Browse vs. Here to Meet profiles...

Actually if we take an average of 10s to send 'not for us' by the average of 100 messages a day many women get then the time taken to do 7000 responses is approaching 2hrs. I can think of many better things to do with that 2hrs can't you

Apologies for getting used to other 21st Century dating apps which make more sense than this relic from the 1800s, and me suggesting UX improvements...

I'll say it again, just because someone doesn't want to meet you it doesn't mean they're not meeting someone else. Just because someone is into X, it doesn't mean they'll meet absolutely anyone that has the same interests.

Not replying is an answer in itself. This is clearly stated in the FAQ on the site.

Also, if I reply to everyone and then want to change my message filters later, everyone I have previously replied to will not be filtered out. Therefore I do not reply if I'm not interested because I want my filters to work when I use them.

I've been called a timewaster previously because I'm on line at 2am and won't 'meet now' and because I refused to meet someone after just 2 messages. Should these people be allowed to report me for this?

Everyone's idea of a timewaster is different.

I agree that arranging a meet and not turning up should be classed as such but not replying to a message or saying no to someone should not be.

Think beyond a simple rejection scenario, which I'm sure mods wouldn't consider as a proper breach of site rules...

If people refuse to do something with you or not reply to you is not timewasting. We all have choices of who we do something with or if we want to reply.

If you accept this your time on the site may be more enjoyable

Basically what you are saying is this.... members who refuse to engage with other members who think they fulfill the criteria of "X" on profile, should be flagged as time wasters.

This is not how your original post is framed though is it?

You have just described us, we very rarely reply to messages plus we have no intention of meeting either

Yes, that's how I framed it. An open-ended list with multiple scenarios (I gave two examples in parentheses) and ended with an 'etc' sort of gives you an indication I'm concerned with more than a rejection scenario. Perhaps it's you who couldn't see past that?

Would be too open to abuse.Just because someone doesnt reply or not meet another doesnt make them out to be a timewaster and people can become rather vengeful in rejection situations.

What is one person's intentions won't be everyone's, a person could go to the stage of actual meeting and still not a guarantee it's going to lead to getting messy.

Don't just expect just because someone is chatting with you it's leading further with what you may have in mind

Don't be hard on yourself not everyone is for everyone

It's not a flag situation

I might post this again and close this. I can't see Admin implementing your suggestion for these reasons ( or any to be honest ) as we have a report system that anyone can use if you think someone is breaking site rules. Admin will then review and deal with if needed.

Here is an explanation from Admin from another thread on how they deal with reports.

******Just a quick note. If people report others and we can verify that they have broken site rules, we always take action (either a first and final warning, partially suspended account, fully suspended, mixture of the above).

Every single report sent via the REPORT link is reviewed. Clearly it's not in our interests to have people on here who are bad for the site. Equally we need to verify what has been reported and be fair to those who have been reported.

Admin

PS. we never provide feedback on what has happened. It's just not practical given that we get 100s of reports a day.

Here is what the page says after a report has been submitted:

--

Your feedback has been saved.

A website admin will shortly review your feedback and take the necessary action. After reviewing the evidence available to us, we may disable an account, remove a user, disable certain aspects of that user's account or issue a warning.

By leaving feedback you help improve the site for everyone who uses it. Thank you.******
