Closing threads that are too long

Isn't it time that threads were automatically closed at say 75 replies? Or another number? It's impractical to read so many replies so often the same point is made several times because people think they are making a new point.

It gives as many users the opportunity to comment should they want to I'd say it's reasonable. As it would create more posts on same topic, which does happen as times to continue....

Threads are set to close at 175 replies. They occasionally do go on longer but rarely more than around 180

You could stop reading at 75 then in your mind the thread has been closed

Yes it impossible to read all the comments even some short threads. Just go straight in and comment.

Why limit it? So long as people are happy to keep scrolling and reading and posting, then let it get as long as is needed.

Nobody is stopping you from leaving the thread at any time.
