I for one would like it if status stick around even after posting a new status. Kinda a rudimentary wall.

Often i see a status that is clearly supposed to reference a previous status but since the new status replaced the old one it is confusing. It would be nice if on the profile I could see a list of previous status updates (with timestamps)

This would also have the effect of showing not only that someone is active right now, but how active that user has been over a longer period of time.

You could also show other updates in this history list. You can model it after the updates list on the home page, showing pictures uploaded, status messages, perhaps even other actions like "updated profile text" or "hung out in chat" or "posted in the forums" with a link to the post.

On a similar vein (and especially relevant if status messages stick around) sometimes a status message makes me smile, either because it is funny or sexy or cute or whatever. It would be nice to add a fab link to it in the updates list and on profiles and show a number of fabs just like the photos. Would help to get some more interaction in what is otherwise a one way action.
