New chat (beta) 25th Nov update

We've done an update to chat today:

a) You can now launch chat with normal / medium / small cams. Try medium if you have a small screen resolution or a laptop or small cams if you have a netbook.

b) We've made some changes behind the scenes to make doing things like viewing cams, docking cams and sorting the room list speedier.

c) We've removed the event feed and moved the floating room list to be fixed where the event list used to be.

Still to come: Choose font colour and style. PMs to pop out on top.

Please keep the feedback coming.

I like the different cam sizes. Also the room list works well.

Its must slicker than the existing, but maybe that is because it has fewer users. I wonder what it will be like with 100 in the directing room?

I love the new version of chat, easier to follow and great idea to be have pms with the ability to restrict them too.

I am having real problems publishing my cam in there tho, I can get the cam working fine in the old chat but the new one just doesnt want to play - have you put a censor on cams

At the moment your cam must be active and plugged in before entering room to work.

You should see a flash permissions box in the "your cam" bit. Do you?

Yes see the allow box which I tick, the camera turns on (blue light on the unit) but the my cam box remains blank. I have used it on the old chat as I said, I have used it elsewhere which has the same software (allow box) it just seems to be the beta chat that wont play.

I can get my camera to work, but after a minute or so, the messages stop moving up and just freeze. Its OK if I go in without camera, it could just be the bandwidth here though, its a crappy half meg. Any suggestions?

Yeahhhhh much better, now we seem to be getting somwehere.

Much better with the room list on the right and minus the space consuming flags and icons.

Must be getting close to being fully rolled out now ?

This is still on our list. First priority is to get it working for single logins.

I find the beta chat freezes me up, it sends my laptop daft, if it all goes to beta then I am gonna have to leave my beloved chat *sniff sniff*

Am I missing something obvious?

The new chatroom looks great - but I just can't find any way to work out where people are from without opening their profile.... which rather defeats the object of trying to chat to people that are meetable...

With the old chatroom, if you highlight a name, it tells you where they're from - really need this or else there's not much point...

It would also help lots if you could flag up if names are straight, bi, whatever..... any chance?

Or tell me that I'm having one of my blonde moments and have missed the obvious...

yes its exactly the same for us...

thought it was odd cos can still use it in old chatrooms and evrywhere else...

Cant use my cam in the new chatrooms, and ive had a few other people tell they have had the same. I use firefox, vista but the cam is basic. I wonder if its worth buying a better one, but it seems to work in the old one, and every other site im on.
