I've noticed a HUGE amount of spambots that come through on the new users searches, always with the same kind of name formatting, always with either the default text or some random word salad that sounds "dating-site"ish, that after around 24 hours have the text edited to promote some scam website.

Is there anything that can be done to block the scammers creating these accounts, because there are a lot, and surely they must have something similar like IP addresses - there's no way these scammers are rotating their IP addresses quickly enough to create that many accounts. Is there a way to IP block them?

Admin have lots in place, if you report that would be great as you are helping Admin sort out the stragglers

Is it not worth blocking new users from contacting you and when browsing using the advanced search to tick the 'verified' box?

That way you'll never encounter them.

Apart from minimising the risk of engaging with a bot, you'll also be giving genuine new users time to settle in. One of the things that some users complain about and find unnerving is the volume of messages they get as soon as they join, because they're not yet experienced or wise enough to use filters.

Give them space.

They are bots Obi, they only thing they need is a big boot up the jacksie. Admin like the help of people reporting them if they have missed any

Ah. Never encountered one hut we avoid new site users like the plague.

Not that there's anything wrong with them of course......we were all new once.
