Photos disappearing from message

Hello, I’m having a bit of a weird thing where I post pics to a message and then when I look the next day they are gone. Seems to be photos uploaded directly from my phone - is this a glitch or is this meant to happen?

I started to think I was crazy and wasn’t sure if attaching right but people deffo see them and comment.

Anyone had this?

The ones posted directly from your phone so disappear after they've been viewed or within a certain timeframe (I can't remember which)

I didn't realise they did that Automatically I thought you had to tick the Box for it to disappear.
