Quoting

One thing I've noticed on the forum is the misuse of the 'quote' function. Now, I'm not saying quoting is bad - far from it. It's vital for making sense of a non-linear, time-delayed conversation. But why does every quote always have to include every single quote in the chain before it? All it does is lead to monster threads with the same thing repeated over and over.

Is there a particular reason why the forum software can't simply quote the last message in a chain? Would Fab benefit from a 'delete all but the last message' forum etiquette?

"One thing I'm not saying is vital for conversation is particular Fab etiquette?"

Interesting point.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's a common problem on all forums, in my experience. Very few people edit the quoted "train" down to just the bit that's pertinent to their reply.

What makes it worse on here is the lack of "nesting" - all previous quotes are grouped into one large quote, which I agree can get very difficult to parse.

But with only a subset of the user base using the forums, it's unlikely to change.

Auto-filling everything said in a thread so far is pretty annoying in quotes it has to be said.
