Being able to flag members as ‘not of interest’ would save us repeatedly opening profiles only to realise we’d already discounted them.

Obviously this could be achieved by blocking them but that seems a little drastic (and rude)

Similarly we could flag them as ‘of interest’ which similar to a wink but are a private note that at a later date we’d like to contact them.

Neither action will notify the other person.

A red/green ring around their avatar in searches and forum posts.

Why do you think blocking them is a little drastic?

Surely if they are of no interest to you, blocking them is the perfect way of ensuring that you no longer view their profile.

This is exactly what I use the blobk feature for

Just use block. Easiest way all round.

It's neither drastic or rude. It's just a block button. You don't owe anything to anyone on fab and if someone takes a block personally, so what? you never wanted to meet them to begin with.

We block and have been blocked. We just move on elsewhere.

I use block for any unread/read not replied/deleted messages. Saves time next time I search. I am sometimes blocked before I block. Nothing personal. Just move on.

OP blocking is not rude or drastic.

We use it frequently to remove profiles that are of no interest to us.

There are times we click on a profile only to discover they’ve blocked us.

No big deal, we don’t take offence or stress about it. We will however counter block as we obviously have nothing in common.

Use Fab in the way that suits you best.

The block function is an unpleasant way to remove people from your search criteria, despite what the majority here seem to think.

Unfortunately, many people seem to derive a certain satisfaction from exercising their power to block, and regard their block list as a badge of honour.

I would be fully in favour of a less blunt instrument to remove other members, as you suggest.

For us it has nothing to do with power or badges of honour.

If we read someone’s profile and they state they have no interest in TV’s or one /both are straight, we will block. It just saves us from relooking.

To us it’s simply a process of elimination.

Chances are they will never even notice.

People run their profiles in a way that suits them.

Grow some thicker skin. No one cares if you are offended or not except you. Why would anyone want to assert power over you? Do you honestly think they give you a second thought when you are blocked or that they are sat there going "hahaha" that'll show him?

Well that's a very kind message that says a lot about you. I would block you but I'm not so petty, and besides you've probably beaten me to it.

It's got nothing to do with the thickness of my skin or my sense of entitlement. It's about the kind of tone that the word "block" has. It gives a negative implication.

I think it would be a kinder site if it were changed or an alternative provided. Your jumping on me for suggesting this kind of proves my point in a way.

And not that it's relevant or any of your business, but other people do care if I am offended, not just me.

I used to block everyone I wasn't interested in but it doesn't do anything.

It still shows their status updates & profile, the only thing blocking does is stop someone messaging you or seeing you profile when it's clicked on.

The block button is useless!

Needs to have much better filters.

If I don't want to keep seeing obesity every time I come on I should have the option to hide everyone plus size.

No offense to all you plus sizes but you're going to take it anyway.
