Is there a way of removing the little blue dot?

I’m an anti social bugger and sometimes only want to view the forums without people messaging. New messages I simply ignore, but if it’s someone i enjoy chatting with but not just right now, it seems a bit rude

can't you just hide your profile and still enjoy the site?
