Can we have a function like the delete one, where you can edit your post for up to 5 minutes?

It would save space, as less posts correcting errors, or deleted posts because of errors?

The message can be previewed before you post the message to check spelling and or make corrections

I would like this too, i often forget to proof read it espescially on fast flowing threads, so an edit button would be handy

As I’ve said, it’s not for before posting, it’s for after, when you’ve realised you’ve made 67 errors in your post.

It has been suggested, the reason that we can't edit posts is to stop people from posting "offensive" comments, then editing them out before they can be reported.

I post “who likes kittens?”

You reply “I love them, they’re wonderful”

I edit my post above yours to “what’s your view on the Nazis”

^^^^ This is why

but most other sites have an edit function in the forums. Not been on one that doesn't allow it except for this one

Agreed.

That's why pretty much all other sites add 'edited' when they are changed and sometimes even with a timestamp so it becomes really obvious if someone has edited after a reply had been posted.
