It's useful being able to view the thread of messages between yourselves and other users - it would also be useful to be able to see it while you are typing a reply to the latest message. E.g. to refer back to details (date and time of meet, etc.) which were in a previous (i.e. not the most recent) message.

does this only work if it's a reply to? if a total new message is done, there is no chain. But I do agree - having to click back to read messages and possibly lose what you've typed is a pain

Ah, yes, or rather, no! I was talking about the thread of "mail" messages between 2 users, not on the forums.

Ah I've gotcha now, one can only see the message one is replying to, so yes, seeing all of it would be really good
