But everyone else can also see the update.

We are only really on here to keep in contact with friends and if we put up a status for friends we get bombarded with mail from loads of people who some get abusive if we don't reply.

Turn message filters on only people you have chatted with you can message you than.

Sorry I misread your post. You mean to update to only friends lol!

As above, if you put on all message filters then no one your haven't spoken to can message you

I empathise and would also love to see a 'friends only' profile feature for when you dont want to be public
