When will fab be getting a refresh

So the site has basically been the same since I first discovered in back in 2009.

Now I'm aware they have refreshed the chat feature in that time and allowed the ability to categorise photos but does anyone else think it could do with a little spruce up?

It sure does need updating. A fab app would be great....

Surely given the number of site supporters that have contributed over the past x number of years and the potential to generate revenue from ads (in a way no to damage the UX) they could do something pretty cool... Just seems a shame that 11 years later 95% is the same

There and to the left a bit

I admit it's a little clunky and doesn't have bells and whistles and more up to date features...BUT I'm an advocate of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and I'm not really sure it's broke - it's basic yes, but it works quite well as basic.

The other thing to remember is it's a free site - and change would cost money - yes there is click throughs to LH and site supporters fees to bring some money in but I don't expect enough to cover server fees and the cost of changes.

Out of interest OP how would you change it if money was no object?

Imagine if they put in place just 15% of the suggestions that the feedback board has how much better it could be...

You effectively have that by placing a link on your phone desktop which you can do from the home page - just takes you straight to the mobile home page and all the functionality of the site

Its not as easy to navigate as modern apps though. But thank you

Thats a very good question and point raised.

I think for me I'd refresh the message feature. Make it more interactive with potential to have more than a 1-1 profile connection. I'd also add a reject feature to make it easier to inform people thanks but no thanks. I'd also add a a separate inbox for friends vs random and better criteria to filter messages.

I think the user profile could be more engaging and informative with better criteria for searching based on more criteria.

I think the forums work well but could do with a UI update. For example there are loads of emojis you can use if know the short hand so why not available to select.

I think having a hotlist is great but maybe being able to categorise friends etc.

Thats just off the top of my head...

So someone moved the chat it into the doldrums of the feedback channel.

This wasn't feedback. This was a discussion hence putting it in the lounge section.

Whichever pillock moved it thanks for nothing.

All interesting ideas for sure and most of those could probably be added without actually changing the basic look and feel - but it does come back to the thing of development cost too.

So comes down to a cost vs "if it ain't broke" kind of balance

Totally agree but then maybe they are missing out on revenue by not refreshing... Bit of a chicken and the egg. If they making a decent amount and doing fk all to update then why bother... Guess until competition comes along then there is no incentive to innovate

I guess that's a subjective thing though - for old duffers like me I find it very simple to navigate compared to some apps - not saying there shouldn't be one (and again I guess developing one for both Android and IOS would have development/hosting cost implications) just think personally the half-way house option works ok, but appreciate that's just my opinion

A few minor tweaks, folders for friends messages, a block for unsolicited friends messages, other than that, it's pretty much fine as it is.

The site doesn't to be super modern with all kind of bells and whistles.

Fab is unfussy, uncomplicated, simple to use, to access.

We like Fab just the way it is thanks.

That "pillock" will have been a mod who is protected by the same rules as everyone else. Don't abuse mods or you may find you can't post at all

Don't forget the "grouped messages". That was a biggie

I think it works well the way it is. Yeah there are fancier looking sites with more features and filters. But you're often also getting the load time to go with it. Fab is simple and fast and hardly ever has down time.

That said, i wouldn't mind more filters. Height and distance would be great, but that's been mentioned so many times, don't think it'll happen x

Either, embarrassed at calling a moderator a pillock or toys thrown out of pram because not everyone agreed with the idea.

Trouble with the if it ain’t broke etc... mantra following that means nothing would get updated.

FAB has its own style and charm so any changes should be minimal.

If asked for change, I reckon a better geographical filter might be one that would get most approval.

Otherwise, I find it simple and easy to use.
