Blocking

I think it would be a good idea to have a sort of universal page for things such as hidden profiles the page someone sees when they have been blocked. It could just be a page stating "You are unable to view this page". The idea behind this is so that someone you have blocked does not know that you have actually blocked them. If I block someone on here, and they come accross my profile and try to access it, they know instantly that I have blocked them, and this can cause ill feeling, or even curiosity from the blocked person as to why you have blocked them. Anybody else think this could work?

Thanks for reading my extremely long-winded post!

"and this can cause ill feeling, or even curiosity from the blocked person as to why you have blocked them."

I have to say I really don't care what someone feels like when I've blocked them.

maybe not, but as an example, someone might block someone they spot who they know from work etc and block them. if this person comes accross their profile and sees that they are blocked, they might wonder why and try to find out who that person is. I for one have blocked someone before and when they found out, they got a friend to access my profile and send me a message.

That should have been reported to admin. Using someone elses profile to get round the block is against site rules.

that's true, but it's neither here nor there for the sake of what I'm suggesting.

Another way to do it could be to make your profile completely invisible to who ever you have blocked. the same way facebook does it.

If you have someone blocked they shouldn't be able to see anything of your profile.

But at the moment, if you are blocked the page that you get says

'This profile is not available for you to view!

This can be one of three things: User's account is suspended by admin, user has blocked you or you have blocked user.'

So, if we get a page that says 'Unavailable to view' etc, surely after all of 5 seconds, people will work out that they have been blocked? No?

To the OP....I am sure adults can figure out that if they are blocked it is because that person doesn't want them to contact/ see their profile....I am not sure why that would cause ill feeling. It just means they have exercised their right.

If a profile is hidden, it tells you that it's hidden. if this was changed to the same page that comes up when someone is blocked, then it doesnt arouse suspicion, because lots of people hide their profiles on here all the time. im sure if you dug deep enough, you could find out that you'd been blocked, but if you werent suspicious in the first place because the person may well have just hidden their profile, you wouldnt bother digging. this is what im getting at.

Supsicious and digging? This all sounds very much cloak and dagger.

The end result would be the same, the person has blocked you, it is their right to do, we then accept it.

well of course that's how it is in an ideal world. from experience though, that isn't the reality.
