It's up to individual to shorten the text. But then at least you know who they're replying to.

I've been a member of various forums over there is 25 years, and I believe they've all had some form of 'Reply and Quote' option in the threads.

In Most other forums through, the posters normally delete the majority of text and only leave the part of the comment which they are indeed REPLYING to.
