Got an email from them, it’s closing. Apparently they’re looking for a new venue.

From them;

" Dear Members

As you know we've been fighting a long battle with the council to keep Kestrel and AbFabParties open and we would like to thank all of you for your help and support throughout this period.

However it is now prudent that we close both Kestrel and AbFabParties.

We are looking to relocate to commercial premises, so this is not the end for us. It will take some time but please don't lose faith and come back to us once we re-open.

Warmest regards

Kestrel Hydro and AbFabParties Team "

"Gotta love the "nimbys" ??"

I don’t think that applied here. All the Village knew about it and didn’t have an issue. The club brought in a lot of business to the area. It’s just one or a few councillors I think. That’s my understanding though.

It might boost the numbers at Hellfire which is pretty close. (I wish he'd put some showers in though)

Whichever counsellor got a bee in their bonnet about the venue I sincerely hope loses their seat in the next local elections. In a time of austerity how much money has Spelthorne council spent on this witch hunt.

The village will lose money as to be honest what other attractions are there in the area, people have lost jobs and the council will lose some rates I'm guessing too.

Despicable behaviour.

So you don't think its about the lack of income with numbers down so much lately, the legal fight simply becomes unaffordable not the reason it happens now, plenty people throught the door and the new measures of control sought legaly can be afforded, its always a numbers game in business

if funds allow they should look fora big detached house in the country , big driveway , surrounded by tall conifer trees .

theres plenty about in the area .

at least this way they will always own the property which shuts the council out as long as they have the correct initial usage planning permission in place

the property will always increase in value ..

just seems the way forward to me ..

instead of paying huge rents and business rates on commercial property pay a mortgage..

Can’t see how the Fab argument has anything to do with a costly and ultimately fruitless legal battle which the club were unlikely to win.

Then there are all the people we have met. Made some amazing friends here and had some great times. Let's hope we all stay in touch until a new venue is found.

Lastly the local council should be ashamed. Jobs have been lost and the local community will lose money. How much have T5 made out of the club plus local pubs and corner shops etc?

I'd like to know who the people were that spent the public's money on this. It's disgraceful.

Once the Planning Inspector supported the councils original decision any further appeals were against their decision.

"The Planning Inspectorate is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government"

So it was money that the government could have otherwise spent on social housing.

Really sad news...though have been expecting and dreading this day from the moment they ran out of road with the appeals process. Second eerything that's been said here about Spelthorne council, a bunch of interfering busybodies. As has been noted, the club was on good terms with its (not very near) neighbours and if anything boosted the local economy. Summer days will not be the same and as far as a readily accessible, popular venue in West London is concerned there is now a vacuum. Perhaps Hellfire will mount a publicity drive, extend their opening hours and generally try to take advantage of this gap in the market - they certainly ought to. I had so many fabulous days and nights at Kestrel/AbFab and will miss it enormously. Sad day :

You may be right but I’m very sceptical. The costs will have been astronomical and it’s not a case that you can keep spending money on appeals and stall it forever. They were told to close or at least change massively, it wasn’t a request it was a legal ruling.

Also, abfabs/kestrels are one of the most active clubs on the forum. The fact that their listings aren’t on the events page isnt a big blow.

I’ve not been for ages, I prefer le boudoir for travel and they genuinely limit single guys and ensure dress and behaviour are adhered too. Perhaps the drop of in attendance was for reasons other that this site?

Sad news but I think we all knew it was going to happen. This was like a case of the terminal patient being given 6 months but hanging for 12 months. It was always going to happen - just a case of when.

Met some great people and made some great friends at the place. Thinking of the staff who only found out they had no jobs by seeing the news on some people's profiles.

Yes numbers have been down recently and I'm sure there were many reasons for that including the weather but it can't have helped with newbies arriving to see what looked like a builders fence around the property.

Yes Eureka seams to be the closest equivelent club in my experience.

One up shot of this closure is that the other clubs might find an up turn in trade and the money to make investment.

The social trend at the moment is towards a new conservatism and puretanism. We liberal Swingers are on the back foot i am afraid.

Nimby has nothing to do with it. The owner played fast and loose with the law and the law won. Many other clubs operate without major issue because they operate within the rules. The only person to blame here is the owner. That being said, there was a time when Abfabs was a great club and we had some great times.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Reflecting on this they lasted much longer than the original stay of execution.

I loved the relaxed feel of Kestrels and was always happy to go there on my own. I loved the mixture of public and private spaces at AbFab.

I guess it all have to be Eureka for the outdoors and, if I ever have a play partner, Le Boudoir and OP4F for the club experience.

Thanks to the staff who always made me feel safe.

Heathrow

Not really true ,the owners made the one simple mistake all those years ago when they opened of doing so in what was a home, not a commercial building and as such they were condemned from then as change of use was never going to be allowed, the club didn't go to court because of what took place at the club ,it went to court because he turned the home into a business premises and this brought the rulings he lost.Other clubs are in industrial premises so do not suffer this ruling, this is why the owners looked to purchase the industrial unit close by that would already have the licenses he needed It may seem a crazy thing to some to lose a case over but the councilors actions are to increase housing stock not reduce so he had to be stopped as any other business would

"Firstly, thank you to all the staff who gave us great memories. All the new years and events over the years have been amazing.

Truly sorry to hear this. A place of fun and lovely memories for us

Lets hope the local council will now devote thier energies and money to dealing with poor ssocial care, better policing and social amenities. Maybe close down a few crack dens rather than a local club which

Does no harm to anyone

Brings money to the area

Is enjoyed by probably thousands of people

Pompous stuck up wankers

To the owners and staff of Kestrels /abfabs we wish you all the best and thank you for running an awesome club. If you rise again.... Your members will be there

As an old Kevin Costner movie says.... If you build it..... They will come!!

Hull but travel regularly

As well as being a member for over 10 years, I’ve worked there as an Abfab party host with my ex (who I met there in the hottub!), i worked Kestrels at weekends, then I started the original extended hours when they first opened on a weds night and most lately as House Domme for HDZ. Met some amazing people, made lasting friendships and had some very memorable experiences in that time. I’ve been to 38 clubs in this country and abroad and nowhere comes close to it in my opinion. Truly a special place, hope the new location will bring us the kestrel summers we’re used to

It is a shame it’s closed.

But they broke the law and knew it and kept pushing if it was a private individual it would have been closed or knocked down years ago.

What I do think is odd that Saturday no meantion it’s closing to staff and still takes memberships

Then bang where closed

Hope they made a pretty penny or too from all this

This seems to be the course of some places. Still remember spice taking money for holidays even to the day they closed.

But it is a shame nothing in the area worth going to so trips to chameleons now.

Gutted only visited for 1st time last year after promising myself would go before.

Seems that a lot of these types of venues are coming under increased scrutiny form the local councils, finding ways to stop them trading or creating more rules, this will be the 4 club in last few years shutdown despite it not having any issues with locals,I suspect that Eurekas will be next on radar.

Hope the rise again from the ashes if they can find a tolerant Council

Can't think of anywhere that has outdoor daytime naturist opportunities - apart from vanilla (non-playing) naturist clubs.

All of the places I know of are either night clubs style or indoor spas.

No idea where we could go to share the same or similar experiences.

Eurekas is the only one I know of and that's miles away.

Our heartfelt wishes go to all the staff that were employed and have now have no jobs We have all had great times, great bbq,s and I'm sure as a business man G was doing his best to keep the club as a going concern..he fought as much as he could, this couldn't have been easy, the pressure, the stress, by all involved....

Let's help and hope that it isn't too long for a solution to be found which ever way it may be

In the meantime everybody keep in touch xxx

A naturist club would be perfect in terms of the fact that they often have outdoor pools. Somewhere like Surrey Downs sun clubs old site would have been perfect.

Reading

Sad day. The first place that we ever went to and it was a great introduction to the scene. Will miss the friendly staff and hot sunny days flirting with other couples on the grass. A small victory for narrow minded people who have actually benefitted no one but deprived lots of people of a wonderful facility. More importantly, we hope that the lovely staff (and owners!) are OK and hopefully it will be the start of something bigger and better rather than the end.

Back when I first found this wonderful place many years ago was told that kestrels was purchased as a place that the owners could entertain privately but as word of mouth got round they decided to make it a members club. It was never intended as a commercial venue but they generously decided to open it and were all-inclusive, believed there was the correct planning in place.G&N welcomed everyone with open arms and made you feel at home. Wherever or whatever they decide hope they retain the fabulous mix of staff as they are a bunch of unique fabulous personalities (like the clientele) who worked tirelessly to make it the best venue around.

There is nowhere else nearby where you can float under the stars in the buff on a summers night, it's pure magic.

Watched many romances blossom and will miss the flirtations between like minded free spirited wonderful adults..

Is the bench available please!

We’ve never been to abfabs or kestrels but so sad that this has happened to another adults only establishment in and around London.

Speaking to the guy who owns le Boudoir it sounds like a constant battle to keep these sort of places open. People just don’t want what they can’t understand, even at the expense of other, perfectly happy, law-abding people’s happiness.

Hope they manage to open another venue somewhere.
