Well, this weekend a few hundred very disappointed swingers got the news that the festival wasn't gonna happen this year. So who's doing what with their newly freed up weekend? Yesterday I booked a ticket to see Phil Collins in Hyde Park for the Friday and about to book to see Richard Ashcroft @ Brixton Academy on Saturday. Kestrels Sunday is starting to look like a plan.

So come on folks, you've gone to all the trouble of off-loading the kids and making up stories about where you're gonna be for your vanilla friends that weekend, so let's be positive, make the most of the time (you never know, it might even be sunny) and let's make the best of a bad situation.

So if on the night, the seat next to mine contains a curvy, redhead with her tongue hanging out, I shouldn't be surprised, right?

"Howcome its not happening?"

Press coverage seems to have put a lot of people off, and cost them club support too.

Well I was hoping to entice you to Eurekas but you're all booked up now.

I think its the SSC North Sports Day that Friday so will bob along to that. Then see about getting up to mischief another weekend.

I was looking into that but they're only selling tickets to members and it's too far to trek up to either club from down here.

We aren't. But The Sun needed something titillating to disguise as news to sell papers. Truth is, the only thing in the article of "public interest" was the dairy farmer saying he had to rent his fields out for other events cos the supermarket's have driven the price of milk down so low, he's losing money producing it.

Seats upstairs still on sale, but no standing floor space.

Last weekend I was at a party in the country, on a private estate in S Derbyshire that had been thrown as a birthday bash. The place was quiet, secluded, with little chance of being seen or disturbed. We had 30 people there but there was easily room for quadruple that amount with the land that had been hired. It's do-able if you want to throw it yourselves but it'll take some planning. And tickets sold in advance.

Sunday will definitely be Kestrels or Eurekas. Who's doing which people? We'll go with the majority and all stick together. How late is Eurekas open Sundays anyway?

Well that was coming, given the lack of any buzz on the forums. I still feel it was the organisers fault. They thought they could put on a well publicised Glastonbury of swinging and not get stung.

Instead the whole thing should have been deeply underground, with secret phone numbers passed out between trusted people who were in the scene, keeping it small and incognito, like the illegal raves of yesteryear (learn from past generations).

Either that or it would need to be a party where you take all your clothes off at the entrance, leave all your possessions behind, then wear provided togas for the rest of the party. Sure it'd put off a lot of people... but at least it would have the balls to be a radical party (which is what swinging is whether you like it or not) and those who would go to such a bonkers event, like us, would all be mad heads so it'd probably be great.

Without doing either of these the only route left is to officially turn it into a no play social-only event, which is what I'd strongly recommend the organisers to do. Ok so there'll be no fun... But it'll still be a fun camp out where you have the chance to meet a big group of swingers. Indeed, if you put on a massive camp out mixer for vanilla people, LGBT people, and swingers, where people of different persuasions can wear a different coloured badge, the whole thing would be so open and diluted that there'd be nothing for the press to report. The headline "debauched swingers party" sells far more papers than "party for people to meet and make friends, some of which might be swingers".

Sorry for the ramble but I do feel this is a case of the workman blaming the tools. If the organisers don't take a long hard look at why it failed they'll just make the same mistakes again

Well the press will always find it and money talks. No doubt they paid someone to reveal the location
