A few times in clubs we have noticed occupied private rooms with a towel over the top of the door.. does this have any particular meaning?

Probably means

'Piss off'

I'm assuming that means that the room is occupied, or that it means that they want people to leave them alone and stop knocking and eavesdropping. I've witnessed it happening in a club before and was mortified at how disrespectful people are towards occupied rooms.

It can be to block windows or vents in the door.

Why don't they just lock the door then if that's the case?

I'm always tempted to gently push the door open and ask the occupants what it means!

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

There is a room in Chams that hasn`t got a lock on it and nearly always seems to have a towel over the door!

"There is a room in Chams that hasn`t got a lock on it and nearly always seems to have a towel over the door!"

That room has the fire exit in there so they can't have a lock on the door. Most just put a towel over and do there best to wedge it shut and hope people don't keep pushing at the door.

I made the mistake of entering a room that I thought was empty recently x

The gentleman was most polite and I commented on his technique!!! The lady in question was most offended as she was getting fxxked up her arse from behind!

Luckily some people still come in while you're using a private room, don't they Suzi? Nothing like others joining in for a spontaneous play.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Lots of people seem to believe that the doors are stiff, and try them very robustly in order to make absolutely sure that it really is locked - have seen them flex quite alarmingly in the past

So, if a towel serves as an "occupied" sign, all the better.
