Chlorine in Jacuzzis

Hi folks, been going to a few clubs recently and love using the jacuzzi facilities ( don't sit in for ages). Yet again this morning I have woken up coughing, sneezing, bad throat and hardly any voice. Beginning to wonder if it is the chlorine. Anyone else had similar problems?

Could be.

Google Chlorine Allergy, the symptoms seem to fit.

"We have also been affected by the chemicals but mainly to the skin."

Is possibly a chlorine allergy but possibly ph imbalance. Jacuzzi require water test 4 times per day & drained & sterilised 3 times per week minimum. 5/10 mins max & always shower immediately after each use to avoid skin becoming sensitised to chlorine.

Many people enter the jacuzzi and do not shower afterwards. Hope this helps you avoid problems in the future xx

Maybe its not the chlorine.......

"Researchers at the Centre for Disease Control say nitrogen compounds in urine and sweat react with chlorine to form an irritant that can sting your eyes and turn them red."

showering does greatly reduce the risk of skin irritation & over chlorinisation & lack of regular water treatment will cause the red eye burning sensation.

We have had some rashes to our legs after spa visits so...think we know what it is and will definitely shower after getting out the hot tubs.

Both Jacuzzis and swimming pools. Some seem to be far worse than others...I assume it's down to chlorine policy!?

Always hard with a jacuzzi. We drop ours every day. Partners have a wet area that's about the best in the uk. They manage to keep it tip top. Almost a full time job by itself Noticed a lot of clubs removing them now x

Oh God Jacuzzis! The bain of Jim's life but a much loved part of the club so a necessary evil.

It's actually a huge job maintaining a hot tub to keep it fresh and that's not just the water but the internals too.

We have notices in the tub area to shower before you get in. It's not just cleanliness but also, as someone mentioned, reactions of ammonia (sweat and urine) with the chemicals. Also body creams, fake tan..it all plays havoc.

If you think you've had a reaction, then have a shower before and after you get in the tub next time and see how you get on.

There's also another product that some places use called Antifoam and if that's been put in too soon before the tub is open to the public, it can cause stingy eyes and skin reactions. This happens to me. I can't go in the room for an hour after its been antifoamed!

You may just be a little sensitive soul and can't spend much time in the tub xx
