Playing in the social areas?

How do people feel about playing in the social areas of clubs? It seems ideal for those exhibitionists who would like as many people watching as possible, but I get the impression it can be really frowned upon.

I've wondered this too. Perhaps it depends on the club? I wanted to soft play in the near empty lounge of Townhouse but refrained in case it was poor etiquette as I'd not seen anyone else doing sexual play there. Be interesting to know what's appropriate.

I don't like it, if an area is clearly designated as social only I think it should stay that way.

I think it would depend on the atmosphere of the clientele at the time. I've seen it happen and nobody complained but it would be perhaps too much to be anally fisting your playmate right next to somebody trying to enjoy the complementary buffet.

I think it's worth asking the club staff.

I was confused in VA whether you are allowed to wear underwear at the bar/in the social areas or not. I was told it tends to be OK after midnight.

I agree completely. Bad manners at best and puts pressure on nervous newbies at worst.

Doesn't bother me, but then I may have become used to it now as I just tend to walk by carrying on with what I was doing.

No clubs I've been to have an area called "the social area", I think people decide on that themselves. On party nights you're bound to see people playing here, there and everywhere, as people get fed up waiting for a room.

But like someone stated above, if it's not something too extreme then people should be able to turn a blind eye to it, it's just like live porn

we have had sex in most areas of TH..

I suppose it just depends on the night.

I'm not a fan of people playing in the social/bar area of clubs, but Chams has a couple of places where you can play downstairs at the bar.

We tend to play it by ear.

We like a bit of exhibitionism so social areas are ideal but we keep it on the lighter side of things and try to get a feel for the situation first.

I'd hate to think we had offended anyone but we are all grown ups.

It is a swingers club and I don't think anyone minds couples playing where ever they are, and yes some couples like to be watched, and ifs so good luck to them, I know I would never complain if they did it in the club I go.

Depends on the club and the occasion I think.

VA tend not to have much play in the social areas on normal club nights but private functions and some of the events we've seen it. I do think for that type of club it is better that way. I think it's a good selling point for the club and we like that you make a choice to step into the play areas. Probably woukd scare some of the newbies that come along expecting now play in those areas too lol

Something we do not like, especially in the bar area if we are eating! or people having sex on the bar!! More often than not the rooms are empty and people end up playing in the social areas. Not very good in our opinion. We also like to have a wind down if we have just been in a room so dont really want to see someone getting noshed off in front of us!

There was a bit of a to do a few years ago at thi about people playing in the bar. Think the general consensus is that its inappropriate. Can't remember if it was on the forums or on another site.

I'd say it depends on the mood and time of night. Once people start dressing down and have come back to the bar area for a breather then playing in the social areas becomes more acceptable in our mind.

If you're in the bar at 8pm and everyone's just chatting politely then not so much

We've been at THI where the lounge and bar areas have become soft play areas. It didn't bother us but obviously if you were looking for a place away from the playing then it doesn't give you anywhere to go.

I think that's a really good point - clubs are scary enough for newbies without the bar/social areas turning into a flesh fest

We've been to VA and Libs and never seen play in the social areas - plus there's a certain exciting anticipation of going into the play areas which builds as you eye people up in the bar and imagine them deliciously naked in the playrooms later - yum yum yum!!

Don't see a problem with it. Even for newbies, at the end of the day they came because they were interested in sex, would be even worse if none happened or if it was all behind a closed door!

We go Chams, we go daytime and are rarely there after 7pm.

Personally i would prefer not to see people playing in the bar area as we use that area to chill and to have a drink and something to eat, however there is an area that is sort of out of the way and people playing in there wouldn't bother me.

I do think also that it would put off newbies who were a bit nervous or shy.

There are plenty of other areas in the club for people to watch and be watched.

I do feel in two minds about it. Sometimes it would be nice to just go with the flow and play wherever but I do agree about people not being forced into other people's scene. Exhibitionists playing with an open door is great. Them just putting themselves in front of an unwilling audience is another.

Given that at Ab Fabs there is a double bed in the main social area I assume they encourage it.

I just tend to wander off and sit somewhere else if something starts in the main lounge as watching isn't my thing.

It depends on the event really. We did have a 'to do' a few years ago on a well known Fetish website when people were soft playing in the bar on a BDSM night while people were eating. On a BDSM night this wasn't really acceptable and we took on board the complaints. All sexual play on BDSM nights now takes place in playrooms and we ask the same on socials and kinky karaoke nights. Swinging nights tend to be more relaxed and although people generally play in the playrooms, it is not frowned upon if people play downstairs in the lounge/bar. To be fair, it doesn't happen often as we have so many playrooms.

Xx

We visited a club not long ago and were told on arrival strictly no play in the social area, spent the rest of the evening wondering if I was even allowed to fondle hubby in the bar area, killed it totally for me, made it all seem cold and clinical, on a normal swinging night I think it should be anything goes in the social areas that's part of the fun!

yep..... hopefully there are enough areas in a club where people can do what they like without having to do it in a social space...

plus to be honest... i like a neutral place where i can just chill and relax, plus it also acts as a safe space for newbies......

what next..... playing in loo's.... in smoking area's... (i am being facetious)

I have seen people playing in the ladies loos at Chams. Very off putting for me as all i wanted to do was go for a wee in private but there were several guys in the ladies loos watching another woman in one of the cubicles.

I went and found a unisex loo instead as weeing while being watched isn't my thing at all

That's really interesting.

I mostly go to fetish events where we almost always play in the social areas in some way. Small rooms that you find in most swingers clubs aren't very good for BDSM play, which is why they largely make terrible venues for kink socials.

My partner and I want to go to more swingers clubs, but playing in little rooms doesn't really do anything for us. We want to be watched - that's our thing. And we want him to be watched with other guys.

Yes but we have 2 very large dungeons (like proper ones...cellar, jail cells, padded cell, the whole 9 yards), a smaller dungeon and 3 other playrooms that we convert, a large enough for big group scenarios and have equipment in them. As we run professional dungeons out of the venue, we are well equipped for BDSM nights and run a few dedicated events a month.

So long gone are the days when we are just a swingers club...we run so manny other events now. This is why the whole playing in social areas is vague and can vary xx

You should try Angels, a reasonable sized dungeon area, some good open rooms (as well as private ones) and a large open play area for as many people as you might want

If it is a Club for Swingers then surely no area is out of bounds for encounters? What next? Sex only in lockable room with the lights out?

When we go to Clubs we go to have sexual encounters and they tend to happen anywhere.... And why not!

Yeah I know what you mean. I suppose it's the spontenaity that is lost for me there. 'Oh hi, would you like to play? Lets just go and find a room... not that not... oh theres no bed in that one... hmm, someone is doing a type of play we don't like in that one... this one isn't big enough... there's nobody else in that one...' etc... when in reality it's more satisfying to just bark orders at the boy and make him do what I want there and then...

I suspect the problem is when there aren't clearly defined rules (a fet event I go to has a *specific* "no play in the social area" rule, another fet event I go to actively encourages it). I looked at the rules for the swingers clubs we've been to before, but couldn't see anything specific either way.

I think it all comes down to how considerate people are if they were to play in social areas. Would I be interested in watching a little scene develop while I sat at the bar? Very probably...do I want someone heaving and sweating into my pint next to me? Unlikely...but then poor consideration happens anywhere. I got kicked in the head in a hot tub by someone who felt the need to take the whole thing over to convince everyone what a great time she was having

I personally like having somewhere to take a break from it all and take the point about anyone who is nervous and potentially feels overwhelmed by it but wouldn't be offended if there was play perhaps later in the evening
