Yes we remember it.

The owners started using it as a brothel during the day and Manchester Vice closed it down and then applied for a warrant to close it permanently eventually the Police won and it closed about 4 years ago (maybe more)

"Was this at the Corn Exchange?"

It was in Blackfriars St just by Chapel St. We went once and we're glad it wasn't our first club or it would have been our last.

It was round the corner from the Black Lion. As far as I can see the premises have been unused since unless it is accessed from internally

I remember it, but not for being "great".

The club was too big for the number of people it attracted, and they were always trying to court dodgy publicity off the Sport and Sunday Sport newspapers. How further down-market can you go? As a result you never knew what to expect or who you were mixing with in there.

Xanadu had a period of a few years when it was really good. Then it changed hands and became a less friendly place and was generaly involved in activities outside of swinging that put genuine people off. With so many other clubs nearby people voted with their feet.

I've walked past it a few times once it had been pointed out to me by someone. A good spot though it looks a bit small from the front

Eurostar was near Strangeways. It moved to Rochdale Rd as Club Manchester but closed many years ago.

Oh my goodness the Rochdale Rd venue was scary. I'm surprised the venue is still standing.

"Faint recollection of a club in Manchester called "Boardrooms" or is memory playing tricks ?"

No your memory is fine. It was the Boardroom in Salford.

I (Mr) used to go there as a single guy in the early 90's and then later as a couple with my ex.

It was about as down market as you could get but had a certain appeal about it, mostly lots of sex

The owner (Billy if I remember correctly) had his boxing gym in a back room and there was a gap of some sort between the buildings and he bridged it with an old railway carriage connection. Always used to wobble a bit as you walked across it

Must have been going for a few years though because I can remember it as late as 1999/2000

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Connections run by the guy who was originally at the Boardroom, and who also set up another club (name escapes me) in between times as well.

All those clubs had the same style, "working sauna" til 8pm and then a swingers club in the evenings, with Couples only on a Friday and Couples + Singles on a Saturday.

Connections was excellent, and Xanadu really wasn't able to compete for as long as Connections was going as, as has been said above, people voted with their feet.

Yes, there was place called The Toucan, about half a mile from Cupids, but I think it was a 'parlour' rather than a club like Cupids. Has been closed for several years now I think,.

All this thread is a real walk down memory lane

Toucan was just a massage parlour.

In another lifetime I worked there, those stairs were a nightmare in killer/stripper heels!

1989 was my first visit to the Boardroom - went to the massage parlour and it turned into a swingers club under my feet.

Ralph and his Mrs ran it. Hit and Miss but some of the action .........

Connections ran out of luck with Jim and Anne - she finished off doing shifts there. Jim is still around Anne ran off to Turkey.

Xanadu - too big - too impersonal - wne tin one night and found a world record gang bang attempt in progress - quality eh?? I beleive it finished as a lap dance venue with a back room but that was long after I had ceased going.

Great days if you liked action before the beauty parades and lock outs took over.
