I think arousals is in dunstable.

I've never been so can't vouch for it.

There are a few clubs on the a1 side of the area- The Vanilla Alternative is in Tempsford right on the a1, Tease 2 is up north on the way to Peterborough, and Jaydees is just outside of St Neots.

I've been to Tease II and it's pretty good. Needs a bit of a refurb but they are refurbishing the bar/reception area and the play rooms are kept clean. It's a converted hotel which lends itself quite well to a club. Not huge in size so you won't get lost!

I've tried the Vanilla Alternative just once and won't be back. It's classy but seems to be a place that pretty things go to show themselves off, not to actually play with others. Several friends who have tried the VA agree with this observation. When I went with my wife and another couple, the sum total of conversation we managed with other guests was when I held the toilet door open for a lady who said "thank you". Impossible to get chatting to people, as there were three distinct groups of friends who all knew each other and huddled together in groups.

Kestrels is just down the M1 near Heathrow T5, lovely larger club with just about every facility you could hope for. Guests are usually friendly without being pushy and staff are lovely.

I have not tried Arousals but have heard a lot of bad things about it. However I believe they came under new management last year and things may have improved.

Check out the club reviews section on Fab to get more ideas/opinions.

This just highlights how differently people feel about venues!

Exactly, we would never set foot in one of the clubs mentioned. On the forums about 6 months ago a woman was saying that she was sexually assaulted in another club. The owners of the club and another couple who run a night at the club suggested that it was the woman's fault for playing in an open area, and that if she didn't want to get attacked, she should play behind a locked door. I would not want to visit a club where the owners held those views.

It does indeed Strawberry-Pop. I know you like the VA and are not keen on Tease II.

OP, read reviews on Fab and elsewhere and try to get a taste for what people like and dislike about various places. Think about what is important to you.

The main play area at the VA is very open and some people love this, while others prefer private rooms.

As I said, the VA seems to be somewhere people go to have sex with their own partner and show off to friends who are doing the same. This might just be a by-product of the way it's laid out because lots of couples can have sex and be seen by each other. Also there may be specific events where more swapping/playing goes on at the VA.

TeaseII isn't the most luxurious club but it's clean and has a variety of rooms, some lockable. It's also cheaper than Kestrels which is my favourite place in the area.

A close friend of mine, who I have no reason to doubt, overheard a woman being persuaded she wasn't raped at a club I have not visited....for similar reasons. However it was a guest who did the persuading and not club staff.

What you describe (and what my friend saw) is absolutely abhorrent and while we don't know the full facts I would hope any club would take such allegations seriously. The last thing our lifestyle needs is irresponsible club staff and hosts turning a blind eye to assaults.

Arousal in Dunstable. We were there last night at BMFC. It's an OK club, lots of playrooms, like most places it's the people that make the club.

We have been to the VA a fair number of times over the last year, and also tried chameleons and abfabs. At the VA plenty of swapping goes on, it's not just couples playing together. The club is quite open in its layout, but there are quieter areas if that's what you prefer. For us, watching others and being watched adds to the experience.

VA great club very social and lots of swapping if that's your thing. Because of the Friendly aspect it's also a good club to go to and just toe dip play with each other and simply observe in sexy surroundings.

Loads of good advice here. I'm an fan of both Kestrels and Tease II both are really friendly. Kestrels is really good if want to have a day off from the world

I have been to Arousal's once it's a well laid out club and has the best looking cinema I have seen. Kept when I was there it was empty but sure it's good if get a big crowd in there.

I wouldn't mind trying VA and Jadey's both sound really good.

JayDees is my regular club for a year and highly recommended. Not too far from Luton near to st Neots. Vanilla alternative is lovely and in the same area and abfabs/kestrels by Heathrow.

The greenhouse in Luton do a swinging Tuesday night which is very good.

Wow really interesting discussion this one.

I have not visited any of the club's mentioned. Yet.

But I am a regular at Rio's and very impressed With Eureka (not the drive up to it mind).

Rio's often gets a sagging off but in 15 or so years of going there I have never seen the staff ignore a guest in trouble. Very professional and sweet when you get to know them.

Club safety does and don't would be a really good topic for a thread. I have often offered my services to people as body guard with no expectation of benifit in return. It's good for the scene long term.

You do need to have a somewhat forgiving nature as clubs will attract the desporate and the experienced swingers in unequal messure.

From what I have read it sounds really good and thinking of paying them a visit when I back to walking.

I've been to Rio's a couple times and it's good just outside there special swinging nights it's really a spa with a little extra.

Some friends recently started going to JayDees and enjoy it.

Rio's.....ugh. I haven't been but my wife has, as have several friends. The place has a reputation for very pushy men, my wife says she practically has to beat them off with a stick. They just don't seem to understand "consent".

I know several people who have had men trying to bang down the door from te outside when they go into a private room - and in one case the door was broken down! One friend witnessed cocaine being used in the ladies' bathroom. The most kind description I have heard from people who have been is "it has a horizontal surface if you're in need and don't want to get a hotel room".

No way on earth I would ever go to Rio's. I know these experiences are not my own, but I trust my wife and my close friends' opinions. One should not need the staff to come to the rescue.

Ok I recognise the sound of this and yes you do get dick heads at Rio's. I am sorry your wife had such a rotten time.

A lot of the long term regulars like myself have no time for these twerps!

Sadly I have found these morons in most clubs.

Rio's is a good venue and it is not always full of planks.

Managment should get a bit tougher on these types but they don't. Ho hum.

Sunday afternoon is heavily regulars time and so may be a better day and time to go relaxed and plesent. There are always going to be prats where ever you go or else the door policy is such that only supermodels and nascisits will be allowed in. That's just as bad.

I have to say that I have never encountered anyone who would try to bang down a door on a private room at any club or party I have attended, and I've been in and out of the scene since 2003 as has my wife. I know people who have been around over 20 years. Rio's is the only place they've ever seen such behaviour.

Especially if they are new to the scene, I advise the OP couple to avoid Rio's. Go somewhere you're going to feel relaxed and safe.

Completely agree with your wife re: Rio's

Went there on Saturday as a couple with a male companion. This was during couples only hours. He was 5 minutes late so I had to wait in the reception area as single women are not permitted during couples hours

The reception has a glass door facing the street. One guy stood outside knocking on the glass door making gestures wanting to join me. Just about then, my friend (all 6'5" of him) turned up. The guy just scurried off

My friend was asked to pay £28; their website states £27; we did not make a fuss and paid up. We were handed 2 threadbare towels; one each

Inside was nice and we got another towel for me. We met two other couples and had some fun in the lockable rooms upstairs

At around 11 pm, we wanted to go upstairs again by ourselves and found the door to the first floor locked. We enquired from a staff member and she curtly said, "there is nobody upstairs"; not a surprise as they had locked the access door; no other explanation was given

After midnight, the club opened to singles too. This is when the couples started to leave. By about 1 pm, the whole place was left with probably three women including myself

There was so many lecherous guys staring at me. I felt so uncomfortable that I told my friend that I wanted to leave. We put on our clothes and left

I will go there again but only during couples hours and will leave just before midnight. And will only go there again with someone who is big enough to be able to protect me; I will also take a decent towel with me

Yep I would never go to Rio's after Midnight on a Saturday.

Other nights are better and afternoons are quieter. Avoid Wednesday night the busiest of the week.

It is what it is. I ha e to say there are some really nice and "normal" people who go there to. And as for dealing with the creeps actually lots of regulars like myself are happy to tell a prat to f off for you if you ask.

I really struggle to get my head around the situation described above. Women don't want to go to a club with just a large bunch of guys, and guys dont want to go to a club with no women. Surely its just a negative spiral?

My wife went to Rio's with a lover of hers on two Saturday afternoons, if memory serves. So they effectively went as a couple, and she was constantly fighting off unwanted attention from disrespectful men.

It's not that she was unwilling to play, more that the guys assumed they could touch her intimately without seeking consent in any way. And then wouldn't take "no" for an answer.

Rio's might be better on some days compared to others, but if the OP couple are new to swinging I'd suggest somewhere else first.

While I don't specifically recommend the VA, at least they would feel safe there. Kestrels/Abfabs gets my unreserved recommendation.
