I was with a friend today and we got to talking about me wanting to a club. He said Gems, not that he had been there and ive just been reading the reviews, saw a couple of the reviews said they just went to see what it was like, they ended up playing. Id just like to go to see whats what for my first visit, not necessarily to play. I wouldnt be going alone and may play with my friend if I feel comfortable enough. Has anyone here done this and have you felt a bit daft. Thanks in advance for any feedback, good or otherwise. Maria

Hi

We haven't been to Gems to know the set up. However, the first time we went as a couple to Ab Fabs, it was my first time at a club. I (fem) was so nervous I'd given myself a bad headache before we even got there. There wasn't even any expectation on me to play. When we go it's with the view of having a good night out - playing isn't taken for granted. Anything else is a bonus and often we just play together.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't find what your suggesting odd. I'm in awe of the single ladies that do attend clubs. Make sure you trust you're partner and discuss what you'd like to happen with him. Decide if the club seems the right one for you. Don't let others pressurise you if you're not sure as there's always another time.

When you do go relax and take it as it comes (no pun intended).

Thank you for replying, I havent been to any clubs, he has a couple I think. Its the nearest one to where I/we live, apart from Paradise in Bournemouth. I wouldnt be pressured into doing anything I dont want to and ive only met him 3 times now but yeah I reckon I could trust him to look after me, I told him I wouldnt be pressured into playing first visit. Thanks again for your advice.

Hi. I haven't been to gems either. But I have attended another club with a friend who knows me very well. I was very nervous. But I went in and I have to admit it took a little while to settle down. Eventually I did relax but I never played with anyone other than my friend he was very good. No pressure. Others watched and I even chatted as he played.

Go with how you feel. There is no pressure. Be comfortable and you will enjoy. Go with an open mind and don't put yourself under pressure either. We are going back soon as it is not local to us but well worth the effort.

South Coast is lacking in good clubs so we travel.

You're welcome. It may be worth looking at Kestrels too.

somewhere out there

We are occasional visors to Gems and would go a lot more often if work didn't intrude. It is a good place for a newbie toodip their toes in for the first time. Nobody will pressurise you and you will have a great time.
