I am starting to feel I have missed out on something so: if you are 'married' but playing away from home, can you still go to swinging clubs or do you need a 'partner' to accompany you?

You can go alone. Some clubs limit the number of single guys...it varies depending in the club and the night

Single when attending a club means "single for the purposes of the club", just like a couple in a club might be a pair of fuck buddies, not a couple in a relationship or married. Single refers to an individual guy as opposed to a paired guy.

Case in point: Valentines day last year. It fell on a Friday, the night where LC allows single gents. February 14th we had very few single guys attend. They might be individual when they get to us, but they certainly weren't single in terms of relationship status
