Read a lot of feedback that going to a club can be more successful than this. I'm from South London and work in the city. Anyone recommend some good clubs to try out considering I've never been to one before.

Clubs are great places, but remember that you're not guaranteed anything - if it happens, that's good, if it doesn't, so be it. It all depends upon you and your attitude. As far as I'm concerned, the best place in London is OurPlaceForFun (see club listings) - it's small, cosy and very friendly without being clique-ish. Good luck!
