French Retreat

Hi Guys.. Hope this doesn't contradict FAB guidelines as we are just hoping to get some opinions (not promote a business)and feedback on a idea we have had and as to whether its a viable proposition.

We have recently bought a house in France, and we had the thought that its an ideal property for small groups to meet up and weekend in (and hopefully have some fun on the way lol).

Our questions are these.

Are "weekend long" parties or group getaways popular? or is that too much time in an environment if you are meeting people for the first time?

Secondly, is this something perhaps existing groups of friends might consider as a break together?

Thirdly. Would there be a preference for hosted weekends? or would the preference be to manage this independently when arranging?

The house has 4 separate bedrooms and two baths, as well as a celler and attic.

If this was viable, we would look to "refurb" the celler and attic into playrooms to try and cater for a variety of tastes.

If we felt that this was something that would be popular we would look to progress, however at this stage it is very much a work in progress.

Be very grateful for any productive feedback.

Cheers

The French "retreat"? Never, it was always a "tactical withdrawal". You'll be saying they do a lot of surrendering next!

Regarding your germ of an idea, I can't really comment on what groups of friends would like (because I'm Billy No Mates), but I'd say that you being able to take care of the transport/transfer issues would be a major bonus.

I've heard of supposedly fantastic venues in the countryside here and abroad which make no mention of actually getting to the bloody place. If I had a weekend booked, I'd not want to be pissing about trying to work out some Frog railway timetable or understand why they are all on strike or having an extended lunch.

Organise it so people can book the lot through you, don't try and make a profit out of cross-Channel leg, and be there to pick people up at the airport with a smile on your face. Make sure you can get them back in plenty of time to get the plane/train home. That just leaves your guests having to worry about enjoying themselves, not missing their flight.

Good luck.

Hadn't thought about the logistics side to be honest..but a very good point!

In the long run we will be living there full time so hosting and collecting wouldn't be a problem.

Short term we would either travel ourselves to host, or just treat it as a "holiday let".

Now I know that if couples or groups wanted to go away they could hire any cottage etc, however, having organised something similar myself we found out that the owners were nearby and we had to worry about noise etc.. so our thinking was also that if the House owners also swing then people can be more comfortable knowing they don't have to worry what anyone says!!

Be worthwhile to be near other swinger wish list things - naturist beach, libertine club(s), and good weather is always a boon!!!

"Build it and they will come...."

Wasn't that the motto of the Premature Ejaculation Treatment Centre?

There is a paid club very similar to this called French Connection, near the Pyrenees in the South of France, the guy who runs it is a really nice man, and his place is purpose built for exactly what your suggesting. It might be worth your while visiting and seeing what he offers people. His venue featured on the original documentary Channel 4 made and to be honest he was given a bit of a bum deal in the way they edited the Show. He prides himself on making sure his guests have a good time and is a lover of good food and wine, so this may well be up your street. At the end of the day you really are talking about either setting up a club, of the hotel variety for weekend getaways or your just talking about enhancing your own living space as a play space for your friends and others you might meet on the scene. It's got to be one or the other to be honest. We would recommend you go and visit French Connection to see how they do things and even on a 'fun' only basis, it will still give you a good idea of what your taking on.
