Control of Camera Phones in Clubs

The issue of camera phones in clubs is a vexed one. We all agree (I am sure) that their use should be banned in a club environment (less restricted use in specific locations for chancing babysitters etc). However, people now use them for payment so much that by banning their use totally you create a problem or at least a difficulty.

Thinking about it, the best solution might be to cover the cameras with specialist anti-tamper stickers that don’t leave any residue on the lens.

If this were a mandatory policy, how would people feel if phones were allowed out in a bar area to allow drinks to be purchased etc?

I don’t think I would be able to relax and enjoy myself if I kept seeing phones everywhere.

We all know you can’t have them in a club so you bring cash or your actual card. Or use a watch or ring with card details on.

I’m sure that system would be open to abuse

If there is a requirement for a phone , ie babysitter then a £10 basic phone should be allowed , but inspected by club staff before entry ..

Anything else is open to abuse...there are very few places now you can relax and be yourself without worrying about a camera watching ..

And clubs could always offer a wrist band or prepaid card supplied by them so there's no need to have any electronics at all..

somewhere only i know!

Taking this away from a club situation, about 10 years ago a friend and me took our kids swimming left them too it while we had a catch up n coffee in the cafe, I got my phone out to show her something and got told off by the lifeguard for having it out, so to me if you can’t show someone a pic in a cafe or something on you’re phone then no change in a club!

Also North West clubs might be different to other but they have an element of trust in their customers where you settle the balance in you’re way out of the club so no need for card/cash or device

Happy place

Go outside if babysitter needs checking and bring cash or a card, no issue then.

Having cash, using your watch or bringing your card isn't a problem. It is a minor inconvenience, that's all of any. You may have no intention of using it to take videos or photos, but other people at the club aren't going to know that. If you can't leave your phone alone at the club, it's probably best to go elsewhere.

To be honest not encouter a problem with people freely carrying phones for payment in clubs. Because either it's pay at checkout, cash only or at one place phones are allowed in the cafe/bar area which is next to the lookers. Any of the above eliminates this problem without any fancy work around.

As to camera phones in clubs as a wider subject is seems to be becoming a bit more of a problem. By the way I have no problem with people taking a phone in a bag to a private room for private content. However although rare I've seen more open carry of phones in clubs as time has gone on. I don't think you can blame the clubs so much because they haven't got eyes everywhere. I think it more comes down to none of the punters saying anything and letting it slide. However it's rare and as long as folk don't accept it we shouldn't have to go to the lengths of removing everyone's phones on entry, which is the form at one club we've been. It's a bit much for us yet I understand it. I makes people feel safer and less inhibited if you can guarantee no phones in a club. Which especially for people in the public eye or in sensitive careers must be a good reason to go to that club.

I personally think that there is no need to have phones out in clubs, if you know you are going either take a card or go to a cash machine prior to attending. With regard to urgent phone calls, you can pop out to reception to check a phone or make any emergency calls. I have had to do this in the past, wasn't an issue. I would rather do this than worry about people secretly filming or taking photos that could end up all over the internet. This is a lifestyle where people are entitled to their privacy and protection. Everyone should be equally respected. All about a bit of fun, not drama. Keep on enjoying the sin guys & gals lol xx

Cellular smart watch is the solution to both issues. We need to be immediately contactable in an emergency when out so purchased an Apple Watch for club visits. Likewise it can use Apple Pay.

Fairly certain Android phones have a multitude of similar options too. We do carry out phone in our bag in some clubs to make private in closed play rooms but wouldn’t dream of having phone out otherwise.

Not all smart / sports watches are supported.

For us, zero phones is what we want otherwise we will not relax and play. Our phones go in the locker at the club, are used soley to pay any tab as we exit. If we want to record, then that's at home and in private

In bar area etc then no phones should be used.

Surely you can remember to bring your card or cash so no need for phone.

For us, phone use in clubs has been enough for us not to go back... we visit clubs where phones are allowed in the bar area, but after paying entry fee, most places we visit then have a table system and so payment is only needed when we are leaving.

If an emergency phone check is needed then an area to do that is great, but for us phones anywhere else is a real turn off. Xx

Phones can always be left in the locker! No need to carry them. It would put me off for sure.

We used to cope in the past without phones, surely we can attend club nights without feeling the need to want to carry one around!

If only they could invent something like a small piece of plastic that you could make payment with. This would solve all these problems

At Ignite Friday and Saturday nights, phones are locked away at reception.

During the day, phones should be in your locker and they have a little cubicle where you can use your phone to check messages. You can charge drinks to your locker key and pay at reception on the way out.

A club we used to had a booth to use your phone, that didn't stop people getting out their phone to use it. The most irritating one I saw was a guy using his hands free kit, this clearly meant he had his phone in his pocket.

There's little reason to carry your phone around with you, although I don't like the idea of leaving mine in my car and I use it for satnav to get to my location and back.

If you need to check your phone, then I don't see the problem of checking it while its in a locker. If you want to use it, then step outside the club for a minute

Yup, no further than the lockers.

Personally we find it nicely freeing not having the phones on us for an evening.

If either of us ever feel the need to check it, just go back to the locker room to do it.

I go to swinging clubs as discretion is assured. Many clubs have a tab and locker system which works well and you can pay your tab at the end of the event with your phone xx

No problem xx

Not in your area

I wouldn't go to a club that confiscated my phone on entry, like wtf?

If it's not in my locker, my phone does not leave my side for a split second. There's no way I'm handing it to a stranger at reception. That's crazy.

Far too much sensitive information on people's phones these days for such a policy to be acceptable.

Only a total twat would get a phone out in a club and if they did should be put out in the street on their bum with the phone having an accident in the melee.
