"Was at Heathrow last week, Terminal 5 and went to get a taxi to Kestrels, (well asked to go to Stanwell post office). It was Sunday about 17:45. First taxi wouldn't take me, second guy wanted £35. The guy running the rank didn't seem to care and told me they would all be the same because it was outside the district even though it was only 5 minutes down the road. I could have got a bus just after 6, but wasn't sure about getting back for my flight later on because according to the timetable, the last bus back was at 6pm(ish) and I wasn't risking a taxi back at those prices." What happened here is that the London style Black cabs are the predominant form of taxi that serve the airport terminals. Their fares are set by the Public Carriage office in London, but within the London area only. Abfabs would be out of that area, so the drivers are not obliged to take you. You could book a mini-cab to collect you; even then, some will not collect you as they have to pay an access fee to the Airport Authorities. Maybe if you spoke to Abfabs etc before you travelled and asked them of any mini cab company they'd recommend, you could use that option. There are also various bus services running down past Stanwell Post Office, which run later than 6pm on a Sunday - check the TFL Website.

"It's only a 25 - 30 min walk from terminal 5 according to site. " True, but have you seen the roads around there; fast flowing traffic, or narrow with micro pavements, if any at all, definitely not designed for pedestrians!

" I'm pretty sure the club wouldn't have put that on web site if it was going to be a dangerous walk but next time I am there will ask about it.

"We usually pay £5 there and £6 to £8 back as it usually very late. Just ask for Kestrels as that is the name of the building and all the taxi drivers know it as that . " Ah!, now notice you were at the airport at T5 and not the Travelodge . What a rip off !!.:.(
