clubs and music

Perhaps I'm going to the wrong places, but I find loud music really kills the mood. I want to be able to talk, to listen to the noises a person makes and ask about what they like and dislike...

I don't mind a bit of gentle music in the background, so I tend to try to avoid clubs with DJ's and dancing.. - other people like it, and that's great, but it's not for me.

The thing is, I've noticed that in even non nightclub clubs, recently, they've been adding music and so I got to thinking.. where do people go to get away from noise in a club, to find a space to talk and be, and get in the mood to play... - seems to me that if people can't talk, they can't connect, but perhaps for other people, they don't need to?

We're with you on this. A bit of mood music is fine but if you have to shout in someone's ear to be heard it makes it difficult to build up a rapport....

Agree with you both, I like to chat without shouting and go to find rooms where its a little quieter.

Actually I find myself in total agreement with the OP too here.

Of the 2 clubs I visit which have fairly raucous sound systems, it's interesting how the layout of the clubs is used to break things up.

For those that know Xtasia, it's a huge club, the "social zone" is split away from the main club and as such the music noise fades simply because of the distance from the dance floor. It's main play areas are approached through closed doors so it's also quieter in that area too, I'm trying desperately to recall if music is piped into that area as a background noise but honestly can't remember.

Atlantis Evolution in Stoke has again a loud music downstairs with its dancefloor. However when going upstairs the seated area has some good background music playing and when moving through to the play area, it fades considerably to be replaced by the sound of people playing...

I know that everyone has their own tastes, but I am going to go the other way...

Please can someone put on a proper club night with potential...

Have you ever been to Manumission @ privilege or Pacha, etc.....Oh my what club nights they are, but of course strictly no playing, even though the owners of Manumission would put on a show..

The closet I have come to it is La Glamour in Cap, pumping trance and more action than you can point a look at all the action stick at....

There must be a market for it....

Have to agree with above whilst socialising and talking us great there is a huge market for the dance club feel , having been to Ibiza, and many many clubs and been a semi pro dj for 15 years good music is essential to any club !

From our experience good thumping funky house or trance gets the adrenalin going and the feet tapping and gets you in a well sexy mood

Who knows maybe in the near future a decent banging club will open in Bristol

I really don't have a problem with music per se, I'm a musician, and I don't have a problem with clubs having a section for dancing... the music can be as loud as people 'want' there.. I guess I'm saying, that even in night club style clubs, perhaps having space where you can get away from the noise and talk is still needed and wanted..

I was in a club on Saturday.. I expected a DJ, and that was fine.. I went to the play rooms, and separate music was on but quiet... - then, when the DJ had finished, the background music which was very ignorable got turned up..everywhere.. Anyway, maybe I'm just not cut out for that kind of club, and I'm a jovial Yorkshire melancholic, so perhaps just want something to grumble about But interesting to hear other people's views, and I can vote with my feet to not go back there anyway.

for sure OP, there is a well made point to you post, and definitely I can see how music in a place where is doesn't fit would be a definite mood killer.

Music needs to be carefully thought about as we have 5 senses, all of which are essential to a good time.

I too have been in clubs and parties where the music is all wrong, and it does effect the atmosphere.

I think we agree on the principle point you made though.

I agree with the OP, the music can be so loud you can hear yourself talk, so how are you supposed to chat to potential play partners.

If I wanted a night club experience I'd goto a night club.

But when I goto a swingers club I want a swingers exp.

Background music is fine, a separate room is fine, but clubs, turn it down a little so you can chat too
