So I did it about 4 months ago and I (Mr!) am a bit of a sad act so I have done it again from what I can tell (looking at websites/reviews etc) the following clubs are shut down/defunct and should be tidied up.

Alter Ego, Leicester, East Midlands

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/531

No Website, Statement from owner saying club is closed.

Club ISH, East Midlands

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/359

Seems to have closed around November 2012.

Kevnkats Pub Socials, Staffordshire, East Midlands

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/195

Website gone (I think we attended the last social), statement on club section saying these are no longer being held.

Trinity Swingers, Great Yarmouth Nr31 0hu, East Midlands

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/445

No updates on website, last review in May was asking if they are still going, previous to that the Feb review asking if its still going... (dead club)

Tv - Ts Club Peterborough

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/556

Has moved to a new venue/name according to comments and website is gone

Club Baloos, Romford, Greater London

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/241

No reviews in 6 months, the organisers use FAB but again dont seem to be running nights any more, might still be around but doesn't look like it.

Oblivion Bar, Preston, North West

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/373

Message saying they shut down as of December, website gone too.

The Griff Hotel Blackpool, Blackpool, North West

No reviews for 7 months, site now leads to a porn site..

Club Wickedness, Brighton, South East

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/573

Clubkiss, Southampton, South East

http://www.fabswingers.com/clubs/653

Closed down due to the council.

Croydon Swingers, South London, Croydon, South East

Actually MR Black Cherry, I much appreciate what you have written. I often check out the clubs section especially if I'm thinking of going somewhere and want to see what clubs are there, admission policy etc.

Now if you could only clear up the reviews too....LOL

Oh I wish, its a slight personal bug bear of mine just how some people choose to use the "review" system. I counted between two couples in 2 months they had left something like 12 "reviews" for one club. Often others descend into incredible amounts of negativity if someone has a legitimate negative review.

The entire system needs to be monitored and moderated a bit more harshly with warnings for those that make reviews personal or just clog them up with what are quite frankly shit pointless reviews that add nothing.

I also Suggested that users would be limited to one review every 6 months and there be the option to add a star rating that would be averaged out.

But I can only do what I can and that at least is getting all the dead clubs cleaned up!

as a club we are really grateful for somebody doing this !!! xxx A lot of customers refer to the club section for finding events and venues so it needs to have credibility. I agree, a limit of one review every six months, its good to see that admin now make sure people are verified and have a profile a decent time to be able to post a review, its not stopped "trolls" but its certainly helped. Tighter monitoring to ensure a REVIEW is actually from somebody who went to the venue is a definate. Good AND bad reviews will always happen, and for a club its a good thing to get a mix. We recently got a negative review and it lead to a full redecoration, re theming and overhaul, so its the way us clubs get to understand peoples real views xxxx

Are you just looking strictly at clubs that have actually closed permanently? I am aware that Romeos is closed due to the roof caving in, given the weather conditions at the moment, I would think it may be a while before it reopens though I haven't checked their website first before posting d'oh

As to the comments about those who post on club reviews, I also agree and have suggested that maybe two comments per month from the same person/couple PROVIDING it is a different night

Thanks for the feedback, its good to know people appreciate it. It isnt a huge job it just takes time and diligence!

I do think they need someone who is dedicated to the club/review section ing out the trolls and terrible responses, but as you say only when you sure the feedback is true and valid can you really act on it

Well closed permanently would be the best idea! If they are striving to re open its best to leave them there ?

Two per month is still 24 a year from a single account and if you look at "total reviews" that could be a decent percentage of a yearly total.

Admin: Please Note: I nominate Mr Black Cherry to be appointed as Site Administrator for Club Reviews with the power to redesign the section so that it has real benefits to both customers and club owners....

Personally though I'd like to see reviews restricted to once every 3 months, though I plead guilty to posting 2 reviews in quick succession for Xtasia for 2 different events being their Foam Party and their NYE night...

Hah thanks for the recommendation

I think the time limit on placing a review is something that should be dictated by common sense to start out with, possibly then moving to an automated system when there is a time period that feels right.

4 reviews a year for a club seem a lot more reasonable than the current state though.

Another way to stop the bulk reviewing may be to have a maximum number of review per account...... say 3 or 4. if any further reviews are posted the older one could be deleted.

Do we really need to know how good the club was last year?

Possibly as it seems totally dead when my friend and I have been hence we won't be going again.

As to the two per month, my only comment is where for example, I went with my fwb to BSC on a Saturday night and then went another night with a different friend, I could not then comment until the next month

That's a good point as no we don't, maybe create a link to a year ie 2011 59 reviews, 2010 65 reviews, that way people can still see how popular they are

I did post this in a thread titled 'club reviews' 44 weeks ago according to the archives lol.

"I'm not sure if it's possible to do, but I'd like to see members have to wait a certain amount of time before posting a review for the same club, a similar system to not being able to wink for 30 days since the last wink to the same person. I can name at least one club where the same 3-4 people comment on a club Friday AND Saturday, it gets a bit much when it's 7/8/9 weeks of it.

Thoughts people please."

Archiving or hiding a previous years comments would be a very good idea but still showing the total number of reviews.

Good move Cherry.

As you well know keeping up with the openings and closings of clubs in the UK is a nightmare.

We've done three electronic updates already.

Keep tabs on Blackpool, as we believe another club is due to open there soon, as well as one in Leeds.

I think its the nature of the economy and the business model some of the clubs have that during this huge downturn we will see a big "churn" in clubs with lots closing down.

Its why I think having someone taking an active interest in the club section is useful as a lot of people use that as a primary resource before going to a club and I cant think of much worse going to a club and it being closed!

As one of the new owners of Eureka I agree with the idea of people not being able to leave multiple reviews of clubs. I don't think that they should be limited to the number of reviews they leave of different clubs but to me one review of the same club every three months is fine.

Also an idea for automatically keeping the club listings current would be to have an automated email sent to the clubs email address every six months asking if they are still in business and are the details of the club correct...if the club does not respond to the automated email within 1 month the listing could be removed. This can all be done automatically and apart from anything else it may prompt forgetful people like myself to update our club listing

Yeah I was thinking that if someone was in charge of the club section getting up to date emails for each club owner should be priority 1, after that a 6 monthly email asking them to check the club details are correct or binning it (if there are no current recent user reviews).

You'd think the club section on sites like FAB was of paramount importance to club owners to be honest, because unless FAB (and other sites) charge the clubs it's free advertising to their target audience which would drive their potential customers to their websites and then into their clubs.

Having that info up to date and accurate would seem to me to be an essential advertising tool.

A lot of them see the internet as a bit of an irrelevance and you can see that in the design and general "up to date ness" of a lot of the sites.

Its odd that a community that has been boosted by the advent of the internet is not taking how you are presented on there seriously.

So yes in short I would love to see clubs taking a more active interest in their website as its the closest thing to a shop window most have

I suggest a 3some with a difference consisting of me and Mr & Mrs BlackCherry. There's no sex involved, just me and Mr BlackCherry checking the club profiles and reviews to ensure they are all alive, kicking and valid, while Mrs Blackcherry sits in the corner muttering that we're quite mad, until she gets to play an active part by checking and verifying our handiwork. Heck, we could even invite ClubPartyPeeps and make it a 5some.....

Think what u did was brill - but on club reviews u are so right. We were in a club on one specific night that this club got 3 negative reviews..strange thing was that with us there were 1 other couple and two singles guys in (bi night on a Tuesday)... next to be very strange all these couples posted fab and brill reviews for a different club about 20miles away and one on same night... Isn't it time that there is a review mod? Who deals with this..also the mobbing if some one post a negative remark and it's right - one club we went into (never again) we know that Health and Safety are permanent "guests" there but club gets fab's and brill reviews all the time and if you dare post a negative one - nasty messages come flying in Angel

hibernating. for now…

We totally agree. The reviews section is almost irrelevant. We have travelled most of the country trying venues. Some clubs are truly a national place. People travel to them from all over. Generally the bigger and well thought out. But reviews can be short in number and detail. We've also been to the 'locals' club. It's a social venue where the same people go every week and post every week and are generally mates with the owners. The review numbers are good the rating are fabulous but the club is a small boring ex terrace house living room. We are not sure how you change this but there is some excellent effort on this thread. Lets hope is achieves something.

I guess thats the flaw in any review system whether it be on FAB, a restaurant review, even trip advisor. Because the club review system on a site like FAB is based upon a very small number of the UK population, the effect is considerably more pronounced when there are constant reviews by the same people for the same club.

I've always believed that the review system should be limited to no more than once every 3 months for an individual club by any one profile. This allows for chnages that are positive or negative in the club to be reflected. I also think there should be a bit of structure to the review for example a simple tick box to confirm all facilities were working at the time of the visit and a mark out of 10 for things like are facilities as described on clubs website, staff friendliness/helpfulness, club cleanliness followed by a short written review.

Clearly that is a radical change to the club review section, it would still be open to some abuse and probably would require a considerable amount of reprogramming for it to work on the site but if it was done combined with other suggestions in this thread it would start to make the section more useful.

As for the differences your post states between one club and another, I don't personally have an issue with that so long as it's reflective of how the club is described.

Good work, really helps people who fancy a trip to another area, makes it easy and also good to see the responses have been positive from club owners, party organisers etc.

People writing weekly club reviews for same does make me laugh though.
