Post covid and condition of clubs.

Speaking to fab friends of ours yesterday we got into talking about clubs and how it seems some have fallen into less than great condition.

To some degree this is understandable given the lack of income these business have had to endure. Things like cleanliness shouldn't be an issue as this would come under housekeeping and will be a reflection (imho) on its owners. The points being discussed were about broken things around clubs, such a toilet cubical locks broken, torn seats and lack of soaps, old worn sheet and towels. The things that money is required to fix.

Our friends have made a couple of trips to two of their favourite places pre-covid in recent weeks and have they been disappointed to see very few people using them and the state of disrepair and lack of investment into keeping them of a standard. Is one because of the other, or have fab habits changed?

I won't name them as this is second hand info to me and would be unfair to the businesses mentioned to me.

So the question I would like to know, is this a universal issue, or have some clubs maintained or indeed even improved since covid? Has the number of clientele grown since lockdown being lifted?

If you are a club owner why not big up yourselves and say why you've been able to continue to keep the overall conditions good or better?

If you think your local club deserves a mention tell us why. The best businesses always have people spreading word of mouth approval (and nothing else hopefully)

This isn't an invitation to do down clubs so please don't.

When you are already £60+ out of pocket in just getting to mainland UK and have hotel costs on top, we'd like to know which are the club's that have survived covid, in being able to legitimately say its business as usual (or better).

Kettering

The Vanilla Alternative built Lux Lounge (the Ibizian style naturist outside facility) and refurbished the rest of the club during all 3 lockdowns. Feedback from visitors has been really appreciative of what is now, a very adaptive venue for days and nights of adult fun in an upmarket, clean and safe environment.

Hemel Hempstead, Herts

During lockdown, penthouse playrooms was build, taking over from the old tenants, Gutting the place and starting again, even still to this day there is more and more being added. Hot tubs, showers, fully equipped dungeon, it is only getting bigger and better as time goes on, the owners have spent a vast amount of money to make it the best venue in the UK

Really appreciate the feedback, we've heard good things about the place before covid and glad to hear it's still good thanks

This sounds like a good place to go, and well done to the owners on the continuation of investment, definitely need to check this out, sounds like it will be money well spent. Thank you for your comments. Well done to the owners also.

Norfolk

From our experience :

VA looks good, the play areas have all been done up.

Liberty Elite had a load of money spent on it and is pretty plush now.

Le Boudoir moved to a new location and very well appointed.

Godalming

Hellfire completed its new Couples Corridor with 2 private rooms and a changing room exclusively for couples.

The school house was also renovated and redecorated.

Lots of changes still happening, always a very clean venue.

I have to agree that Penthouse Playrooms really is the best venue in the UK. It’s friendly, very clean and the place to be. This is a club we love supporting in any way we can and always speak very highly of! X

I think it's not just a club problem, seems to be in most hospitality venues. From my experiences it's those that refurbed and improved, some had to in order to adhere to restrictions. Then there are some venues that have stagnated and have fallen behind, again this is totally understandable given the past few years. It will be a long road to recovery but one that I'm sure if we all support and have understanding on venues can recover.

The purpose of the post wasn't to knock those that have struggled post covid, we sincerely hope that they get a break and recover to former glory asap. Your points are good though.

All clubs have challenges and should any owners be struggling, it might be a good opportunity to possibly reach out and learn what they could do to make their business work for them.

From a personal point of view, we have a minimum of £120 spend then petrol and club fees, assuming that we get a room for £50 or so on a Friday or Saturday night. Otherwise it is to not venture out beyond south Hampshire and not having to get back by stupid o'clock. Frequently we have travelled back after a bit of fun at 3am ferry and finally rolling in to bed at 4.30 is losing its appeal. It would be a real pisser to go somewhere that has lost its charm and with a customer base falling to single figure attendances and do that.

We really are rooting for the struggling clubs in hopes they come good, there aren't enough places as it is, without seeing existing ones go to the wall.
